District 9
We just saw it, and... honestly, I wish I hadn't. I seriously considered getting up and leaving about 20 minutes in. It's not that it was a bad movie. It was actually quite good. And it wasn't offensive or anything, it was just... thoroughly upsetting from start to finish. There were one or two "yay!" moments in there, but really not enough to make up for the general unpleasantness of the entire rest of the film.
It's kind of like after I watched Slumdog Millionaire and wished I hadn't. Also a great movie, but one that, once it was over, I decided I would have rather not sat through. Except at least that movie had a happy ending and a little dance number. I'm going with my original opinion that I could have happily been told District 9 was an excellent movie, and believed it, without actually having to spend two hours watching it.
