Thoughts: Dating Guide Memes...
I hate those memes out there that try to tell boys how to treat their girlfriends.
It's always a mix of the very obvious, the writer's own personal tastes (no, not all girls want the same thing), and both of the following:
(1) Sexist and patriarchal behaviour (or 'chivalry')
(2) Weak, pathetic behaviour that demonstrates a lack of self-respect, usually delivered in a double-standard because it's behaviour that girls wouldn't be expected to return.

Heh, that list seems like the romantic equivalent of the online 'Anarchist's Cookbook'. It's designed to encourage me to sabotage my relationship. :o/

Somehow I doubt if I was to try to physically restrain Elegy_of_flames from spending time with her friends, she would not appreciate it. Elegy_Of_Flames does what she wants, and if I want her to change her beahvior, I ask her, I don't physically restrain her.
Meanwhile I'm a bit above arguing about 'who loves her the most'.

It would make her feel patronised, and rightly so...
Anyone that dated me wanting a protector rather than a boyfriend will have to find someone else.
Besides, anyone that couldn't be trusted to get to the damned car by themselves without 'protection' isn't worthy of my respect, nor is someone that expects people to open doors for them but yet presumably doesn't open doors for anyone else (like me damnit)

I suspect that elegy_of_flames would think it a little bit on the ridiculous side if I did that every day.
I'd certainly think it rather odd. I know that if I had just started dating someone and they did that, it would be an indication to me that I was dating someone I shouldn't be. There's nothing attractive about obsession.
