Miral took a deep breath and then stepped forward as the
doors to her quarters slid open.
Miral allowed her gaze to sweep around the living area. Her
eyes immediately landed upon a lone figure sitting with her head in her hands.
Miral bit her lip as her Mother glanced upwards. The relief she saw flash
across her Mother’s face caused Miral to feel a momentary flash of guilt.
The second she entered the room, Miral watched as her Mother
jumped up from her position on the sofa and flew towards her. Before she could
reach her Miral held up her hands and side stepped her Mother’s embrace.
“Miral I have been worried sick, where have you been?” B’Elanna
asked as she looked Miral over, “You’re filthy.”
“Like you care.” Miral grumbled as she folded her arms
across her chest.
B’Elanna shook her head at the familiar pose, “Miral, you
know very well I care. Seven is out looking for you.”
“Not doing a very good Job is she.” Miral spat as she arched
her right eyebrow.
B’Elanna took a deep breath, “Seven was just as worried as I
was.”
“If you say so.” Miral huffed as she turned away from her
Mother.
“I do say so!” B’Elanna bellowed.
Miral glared as she Mother ran a shaking hand through her
hair. Her chest was heaving as she tried to calm herself. Miral noticed that
her Mother’s eyes were red and puffy as if she had been crying. She heisted for
a moment. She didn’t want to discuss what she had been told, but she had promised
Jenny she would.
“I am only discussing this because Jenny asked me to.” Miral
said as she continued to glare at her Mother.
“Ok.” B’Elanna nodded slowly.
Miral set her jaw and stared at her Mother, “I don’t want a
sibling.”
B’Elanna blinked, and Miral watched as she swallowed hard. “Miral...”
“Don’t, you didn’t even ask me.” Miral shouted.
B’Elanna sighed heavily and rubbed her temples. “We didn’t
think you would have a problem with it.”
Miral heard her Mother’s voice hitch and she pushed down the
feelings of guilt she felt.
“Well I do.” Miral sneered.
“Miral baby, please try to understand.” B’Elanna pleaded.
“Why didn’t you tell me you wanted to have more children?”
Miral asked her voice rising, “You must have planned this, it’s not like it was
an accident.”
“Miral...” B’Elanna warned.
“What? It wasn’t an accident was it? I didn’t know Seven was
capable of knocking you up without the Doctor’s aid!” Miral replied insolently
“Miral, don’t talk about me and Seven like that.” B’Elanna
barked as she attempted to reprimand her daughter.
“Why?” Miral asked petulantly.
“Because I’m your mother, that’s why.” B’Elanna replied
taking a step closer to her daughter.
“Isn’t that unfortunate.” Miral growled.
Miral watched as she Mother threw her hands up in the air in
exasperation. She knew her Mother didn’t want to argue with her, but Miral
couldn’t stop herself from lashing out. She was hurt and it was her Mother and
Seven who had hurt her. They had excluded her from something she thought she
should have been included in.
“Miral, I am warning you, this has to stop.”
“What are you going to do?” Miral asked defiantly, “You’re
already ruining my life.”
“What will I do? I will ground you, and you won’t be able to
see Jenny.”
“You wouldn’t.”
“Watch me.”
“Go on then I dare you.” Miral hissed.
“Miral, why are you being like this?” B’Elanna asked
pleadingly. “We haven’t had an argument
like this in over a year.”
“Why am I doing this?” Miral asked her anger increasing as
she Mother expressed her ignorance of her feelings, “If you don’t know then you
stupid.”
“No, Miral I don’t, tell me.” B’Elanna said as she moved
closer to Miral.
“You are replacing me!” Miral screamed at the top of her
lungs.
“Replacing you?” B’Elanna asked puzzled and shocked, “Baby I
could never do that.”
“You're a liar. That is exactly what you are doing.” Miral
growled as she moved away from her Mothers’ approaching form.
“No Miral I’m not.” B’Elanna said.
Miral shook her head, “You will love this child more than
me.”
“Miral that’s not true.” B’Elanna said firmly.
“It is. I have him inside me.” Miral said her voice holding
the disgust she felt for her Father.
B’Elanna stepped forward and firmly grasped Miral’s
shoulders.
“Miral, do not talk about yourself like that.” B’Elanna
demanded as she gave her daughter and sharp shake.
“Why not, it’s true isn’t it? I’m his daughter and I can
never change that.”
“Miral, I loved your father, I really did. You were born
from love.”
“I don’t believe you.” Miral said as she pulled free of her
Mother’s grasp.
“Miral, I know that you only remember the bad times of my
relationship with Tom, but it wasn’t only like that.” B’Elanna said as she
tried to convince her daughter.
“You will have what you want now, Seven’s child. I can’t
compete with that.” Miral cried as she wrapped her arms around her body.
“You don’t have to compete Miral.” B’Elanna said as tears started
to freely flow down her cheeks. “Baby, I love you, and nobody will make me love
you any less. No matter what you are or who you eventually become, I will
always love you. This baby won’t change anything. You will always be my first baby.”
“You will love it more.” Miral said a lump formed in her
throat.
“Miral that isn’t true.” B’Elanna cried
Miral shook her head. Miral knew she could stay in her
Mother’s presence for much longer without breaking down. She knew she had to
escape.
“I’m going to my room.”
“Please Miral; we need to talk about this.” B’Elanna said as
she tried to stop Miral from escaping to her bedroom.
“I don’t want to talk to you; I
can’t talk about this now.” Miral threw over her shoulder as she fled from her
Mother and their argument.
“Miral...” B’Elanna called after
her daughter.
“Leave me alone!” Miral cried as
the door to her room slid shut blocking her from seeing the devastation she had
caused written all over her Mother’s face.
