Overheard at UBC

I'm at Blenz in the Village, sitting at a table next to a flirty pair of first-year undergrads. They're making googly eyes at each other while talking about American history. I hadn't been paying any concentrated attention until I heard this come out of the girl:

"So was the Versaille Treaty the one that made Japan attack Germany?" This was followed soon after by: "I always liked the Civil War a lot better. The Monitor and the Merrimack were indestructible, it was so cute."

I really wish this was an interchange between Canadians, and I could thus attribute this to their never having bothered with US history, but alas, the girl revealed that she's American.
