For those of you that didn't see my exciting news on Facebook a few days ago, I made the Guest Relations pool. This means that once positions open up, I'm eligible for them to call me. I'm anticipating a long wait, but I keep checking my phone for that wonderful offer phone call. It's not that I'm not enjoying my Concierge time, because I am, I am just excited to get something checked off of my Disney Career Bucket list. :)
Speaking of Concierge, let me tell you about one of my crazy Guests encounters yesterday. A lady comes up to the desk with her child panicking because she lost her phone on a bus. I understand that panic, however, this lady was over the top. We tried to help her, but she was beyond the point of reason. I wasn't on that side so I'm not sure exactly of the exchange that occurred but I know that we got in touch with transportation and the Cast Member from there asked her to spell her name and he asked he to repeat it and she took the phone (slightly) away from her mouth and exclaimed "Is he stupid?" Um...lady this man is trying to help you, why on earth would you call him stupid?!? A phone is a two-way speaker that's how it works, clearly this lady texts to much. Yikes. The husband finally catches up and they were able to track the phone on his phone and it was still on a bus making routes, but they weren't consistent. The family left, and by the way (this entire time her 1 1/2 year old is running around the lobby screaming/crying). Hours later she comes back to me, even more livid now because her husband's phone is dying.
Before I finish the story, I understand what it's like to lose your phone, but you won't get very far by being RUDE.
Lady explains the story to me, since she knows I wasn't involved the first time. I tell her that we don't have a way to contact that bus. She said, "Well, transportation told me that they couldn't contact the bus either, so what am I going to do?" I said "Well, if you talked to transportation and gave them your information, then they will do everything they can to find it for you". She takes a deep breathe and starts freaking out over her husband's phone dying. (In my head, I thought, well if you would just stop tracking the phone for a bit, you could have saved some battery) Anyways, she leans over my counter and says "Do you guys have phone chargers back there?" and I said "No, we don't, what type of phone is it?" She says "an iPhone". I told them that if they checked upstairs in Samoa snacks they might have them. The husband says "There's no way I'm buying a NEW one". I said, "I'm so sorry, I have an iPhone but my charger is at home". The woman says, "I can't believe you guys can't call the bus for us". I said "Ma'am, the buses don't have phones." Then she says, "but they have their radios, can't you call them on that", and I said "No, I'm sorry we can't, if you called transportation they'll do everything they can. Transportation is it's own operations and we really don't have any control over that". Then she asks "What if you call Epcot?" (This is where the bus was heading now according the the tracker on her husbands phone) I said, "Transportation is a separate operation, Epcot doesn't own their buses either". Lady gets a little louder, "YOU MEAN TO TELL ME THAT EPCOT DOESN'T KNOW WHERE THEIR BUSES ARE GOING?!?" I said, "yes, ma'am because as you are able to see while tracking your phone that they don't just go back and forth to 2 places. Then the husband says "Well, what if we go to the TTC?" At this point, I'm puzzled because I have no idea why they want to go there. I asked "For what?" He said "to wait for the phone". I said, "Lost and Found items won't be turned in there until tomorrow morning". He says, "So what if I wait there?". I said "Sir, you can wait there, but that won't do any good, the phone won't get turned in there until tomorrow". Then he says, "but can't we wait there for the bus?" I said, "Sir, there's not very many buses there, just to go to Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom, if you are just looking to talk to a bus driver, we have buses right outside here, no need to go to the TTC". So that's what they did, and I never saw them again. Poor, poor bus driver. Meanwhile while this is going their kids both under 2, were screaming bloody murder, because the parents were freaking out, so they were. Seriously, it was a horrible sound, it just added to the panic.
Yikes. I hope they get their phone back today!
