Looking Back To Look Forward

To say I've had a hard time of holding onto any vestiges of my former Christian upbringing would be an abject understatement. My faith has been slipping for some time. The problem is further compounded by things that make little to no sense in the overall scheme of things and by having met one too many clergy that were suspect in their duties. For ( Read more... )

Truthfully, if the born again crowd, the Catholics or any of the other cult religions based upon the old Osirus myths are right I'd rather go to hell then spend eternity with them.

I'm totally with you on that one. The more I see of the "so called" Christians the less I want to even think about spending an eternity with them.

Yanno, I'm probably going to be left behind for saying this come rapture time, but in the last few years I think I've come to just about the same conclusions as you concerning religion. Why would a God let so many of His people suffer? And it's not just the Holocaust; how many people have been killed needlessly in the name of religion? How many children have been molested, raped, beaten, tortured? Why would a God ever let a child of His suffer like that? What purpose would that have in the grand scheme of things? And I'm not buying the crap about 'God works in mysterious ways' or 'everything happens for a reason'. There's no reason why a child should have to suffer like that. And you're right about the Bible-thumpers - they seem to be the worst of the lot with their holier-than-thou attitudes about shit, then you find out Joe Bible-thumper Shmoe is diddling his 12-year old daughter. Or son. Or the babysitter. Yet they have the nerve look at me all funny when I light a cigarette, like I'm the devil's advocate ( ... )

I agree with what you saying. You would think God would do the old lightning bolt trick on anyone that proposes to be a man of God then diddles with the kiddies in the back room. I truly do hate organized religion, especially in this country. The clergy/child molesters are the worst but they are closely followed by the television hucksters who find every conceivable way to make the flock part with their hard earned money.

TV Preacher: That's right. God has told me to offer up this holy bubblegum to all you faithful. For the mere price of a double chocolate mochalatte a day you can have this never ending supply of holy bubblegum. Every chew and bubble gets you one step closer to God. O_O WTF!!!!!
