Sleeve Mock Up Problems
Well, I'm back at it. This is the first Sleeve Mock up - I think I have the dags down mostly. But there are several problems with my sleeve. It is made from some REALLY nasty taffeta and I only pinked some of the dagges.....
One is that it is too long - you can't see it, but the dagges would drag on the floor.
The sleeve is not wide enough. Hunnisett says the sleeve is about 30 inches wide at the bottom. That might be true if it were the finished width seen from the side, but her pattern sleeve bottom is ~ 33 inches wide, so when the front and back are "boxed" the side width is only about 11 inches wide. It doesn't look right to me at all.
There are not enough dagges to achieve the number counted or to get the density of the picture. I had come to the conclusion that the dagges were not overlapped along the sides where they sit sideways. Now I am not so sure.
Finally the bottom of the sleeve needs to be more curved. I don't think the curve seen is achieved solely by pleating up the front. Some how the bottom is cut in such a way that the last 3 or 4 strips of dagges are closer to the top panel.
The good news is that the shape of the sleeve is helped tremendously by the insertion of a bottom. This is just some cheap fabric that is sort of stiff. When the sleeve is wider it may need more help. It is also possible that the front panels of pleats may stiffen the shape as well.
Hopefully I will get another mock up done in the next few days before I have to return to NY AGAIN!
