Yes, I am neglecting my blogging. So what? Before the summer I didn't have a job, and not many past-times.
Now I have a job, I'm continuing going to judo, I've started going to Latin and Ballroom, and I've joined the mad crowd of LARPers.
Suffice to say that I am progressing slowly but steadily. I'm trying to attend Spin as well as Freestyle Resistance and Core Stability, and I like Body Pump, but timing's a bit of a problem - Saturday mornings it's either exercising without leaving the bed, or going out ;)
I was put off by the Wednesday session when, I think it was a week or two ago, one didn't take place. Why? Because the instructor needed to mop up the water spillage from a burst pipe. The yoga class was supposed to be parallel with Body Pump, so I did that instead - not my favourite, but then I won't go next time.
Mind you, Spin isn't that great either. I don't think I've got perfect hearing but I am still young and perceive very loud music to be, well, very loud. Last Wednesday the music at Spin was that - to the point of giving me a headache; I even shouted at the instructor to turn the volume down a bit (because if I said anything in normal speaking volume, I would not have been heard). So he turned up the microphone volume instead. When I pointed out to him after class that the music was a bit on the loud side, he said that nobody else complained, that it's Spin and not Pilates. I wrote to Consumer Direct about this, and this is the reply I got:
Dear Consumer.Thank you for your enquiry to Consumer Direct. Your reference number for this case is 4479760 and should be quoted in all further correspondence regarding this case.
The key legal points in response to your enquiry are as follows:
With reference to your enquiry, the sound level is likely to be down to personal preference. As such, you may struggle to force the trader to turn the music down unless it is at dangerous levels. You could try speaking to your local Environmental Health department as your local council to see whether they can advise on what may be seen as dangerous. If it is not dangerous, you may have to consider the option you suggested such as using ear plugs.
Earplugs it is then, next time.
My running is getting better. Last Thursday I did 18 min @ 8 km/h; 1 min @ 10 km/h; 1 min @ 8 km/h - total of 20 minutes, and distance wise 1.67 miles.
Oh, and did I say I am working on my upper body a bit? Just a bit, 10 reps at low weights, but it's always something, right?
