There’s No Denying - 200 words
Adding what’s left of the choc chips to the cookie dough, Olivia catches Natalia watching her.
“You changed your hair.”
“Yeah. Why, you don’t like it?”
“It’s beautiful,” she almost whispers, running her hand through Olivia’s soft brown locks.
Olivia can’t help but lean into the touch, smiling. And Natalia eyes can’t help but be drawn to those lips.
They stand there, lost in each other, until a little voice pipes up,
“Are you two going to kiss now?”
They turn to find Emma looking up at them expectantly.
“Uh... What? I mean, what made you think that sweetie?” Olivia asks, just as Natalia realises she still has a handful of Olivia’s hair. Pulling away, she blushes.
Emma shrugs. “It just felt like you were.”
“Hey Ma! Where do you want these boxes?” Rafe calls from outside, just as the oven timer goes off.
The relief that floods Natalia’s face is matched only by the speed with which she exits the kitchen.
“Coming, Rafe!”
Stunned, Olivia turns back to her nine year old.
“She was going to kiss you,” Emma nods, jumping off the stool to go and check on the cookies.
Olivia smiles to herself.
“She was, wasn’t she.”
