The night of the dancing medics

Jan 18, 2008 16:05

Last night, I walked out of Liquid at 02:30 AM. My jeans were very wet.

Yesterday, after my hospital visit to Sunderland and a talk in the medical school about inequalities in Israel and the Palestinian territories, I went back to my flat and had some dinner [bread, lentils and rice!]. Then I got dressed because we were going out to the nightclub Liquid for its Skint night - it's called 'Skint' because every Thursday, the entry fee is only a quid and drinks are all priced at £1.30 and all the poor people in Newcastle [students, as you can imagine] go there, for the sake of going out.

So anyway, I got dressed and got out of my room and Latvian Anna was there in the living room. We call her Latvian Anna to tell between her and another friend who's also called Anna but isn't from Latvia. Anyway, last time she was around, Latvian Anna had gotten everybody well angry because she was spilling wine all over our easy chairs and living room carpet. This time, she asked me for a jersey.
"What?!"
"Do you have a jersey? I want to go smoke outside."
"So you wanna smoke in my jersey?"
"Yes."
"Yes I have a jersey.. but I don't wanna give it to you to smoke in."
She grunted. Later she got Dean to give her his hoodie so she could have a smoke.
After she'd had a smoke, she wouldn't come upstairs. She crossed the parking lot and lay down on the sidewalk next to the university's Sports Centre. She just lay there, literally, not moving even when we called out to her from our window. When the other Anna brought Latvian Anna upstairs, she stumbled backwards into my door and hit some part of her pelvis into the doorknob. And my door was locked, so she felt the impact quite badly. I think we all secretly laughed at that.

The other Anna called taxis and we went to Liquid. Liquid wasn't as packed as I've once seen it. There was space to move. I saw a few of my medic friends near the bar. At first I was just roaming around the nightclub with Rosanne and Lucy, doing tawaaf of the dance floor.
I passed a guy who's on my course.. I see him often, in the library, on Facebook, in my dreams etc., but I've never actually talked to him. Dunno why, just never talked to him. I always had this idea that if I went over and said hi, he'd say, "Who the fuck are you?" In reality, he was much nicer and we managed to have a nice, medic conversation about our 3-hour marathon exams [which were on Monday and Tuesday], about prostaglandins(!) and about where we live, despite the blaring 100-decibel music.
Later I found a huge group of medics from my year dancing in one corner of the dance floor.. I swear, it was like medic central. Sarah, from my seminar group gave me a giant hug from behind and at first I thought it was just some random drunk chick, but when I turned around and saw it was her, I gave her a big fat hug back. Kiran was shoving Talib towards me in the hopes that I would make a move on him or something and poor Talib was so nervous when I put my arms around his neck for a picture.
But the absolute best part of the night was my friend, Danny Boy. He dirty danced with me, pelvis to pelvis [I don't wanna say cock to cock, because that's kinda skanky and he's straight]. He even kissed me on the cheek [twice!] and I kissed him back obviously. Such a party animal, that lad.

We must've danced [or at least stood on the dance floor] for about an hour or so.. then everyone started to leave by like 02:15. I danced with a few vague acquaintances.. and then I decided to leave. I felt someone spill a drink near me and my jeans and my muffler got quite damp, as did my mood after that.

My mind was affectionately nurturing thoughts about the guy from the library I had a conversation with.
I walked out of Liquid last night at 02:30. My jeans were very wet. But only because someone spilled drinks near me, not 'cause I'm a perv!
