New Year's Eve

Jan 01, 2008 23:52

I didn't write a New Year's Eve review yesterday like I've been doing for the past two years. It doesn't make sense because I intend to write it as a sort of descriptive-reflective account of the year but then I realized yesterday that my whole journal is a descriptive-reflective account and I can access all the descriptive-reflectiveness-ness just by clicking on the 'Archive' link. Plus I was feeling lazy yesterday.

So anyways.. Abeer and I didn't have any plans (left) for ways of ringing 2008 in. One by one, friends had abandoned us for better parties with booze and music, while Abeer and I gaped at each other. In the end, desperate to be outdoors on New Year's Eve, the two of us decided to go to the Mall of the Emirates and shop. Our logic was that instead of wasting money on parties and then shopping later in the year, we could just shop and have a good time. Later in the day, Abeer told me that her friend from university would be joining us too.. which was kinda relieving because I didn't wanna be the ONLY loser who spends his New Year's Eve in a mall!

So off we went to the Mall of the Emirates, around 21:00.. we went into H&M and looked around. I saw a nice turtleneck and tried it on.. but it looked too formal and my nipples were showing. I got a belt instead. As I was paying for the belt, the store began to bring its giant metal doors down. That could only mean one thing.. the mall was shutting down at its usual closing time of 22:00. Feck.
Abeer and I hurriedly had our subs from Subway and then waited for her friend from university who is also my friend now.. because he's just so cool. When he came, we talked about where we'd go and we decided to go to Time Café again. 2008 came on the way to Time because we were stuck in a traffic jam.. doesn't matter, at least I was with friends!
Time was packed and they weren't letting anyone in, so we just left and went back to the Mall of the Emirates to watch a movie, but it was closed. We drove further down to Ibn Battuta Mall but the cinema halls were all closed. So we just went to the beach, where we stood and chatted.

The night ended with tequila shots, chugged down from a plastic Masafi bottle. I didn't have any. I got home at 4:00, despite not having any solid plans. The best plans are no plans.

Today itself wasn't so awesome. On the productive side, I washed two of my belts and got the dressing on my incision wound changed. On the not-so-productive side, I didn't get much studying or assignment work done.

A new year, several new crushes...

fun, friends, abeer, dubai, danu, me
