Hug me tight

Today I met Abhishek for the first time after he returned from his vacation in India. He's leaving for Canada on August 27th, he's going there to study. We both knew that today would probably be the last time that we'll see each other for a long time.

I've had a shaky relationship with Abhishek. He was a classmate in the 7th and 8th grades, my arch enemy in the 9th, the subject of much backbiting in the 10th and finally one of my best and closest friends in the 11th grade and in the two years of A-levels that followed. I've had crushes on him on several occasions and I've even told him about them. Ayah Korem sort of summarizes my feelings towards him in her song Yonatan Shapira.

We didn't do much today. We sat around and talked for a while. His girlfriend and Abeer were also with us, so we had quite a good time, going back to our old ways of making dirty jokes and quoting Russell Peters every now and then.
When it was time to leave, I hugged him and told him that I didn't know what I'd do without him. I'm not entirely sure if I meant it, I probably did, but I'm sure gonna miss having him around. I won't find anyone else like him, not in Newcastle, not anywhere else. There will be nobody like him who gets all my jokes, tells me I'm lame when I am, nobody who makes fun of other people with me in the same way that I do, nobody who speaks the same language as I do - that language with Hindi, Urdu and English mashed into one, swear words included - nobody who resists all my attempts to seduce him, nobody who endures my grammar correction policy with a tight-lipped smile and nobody who calls me a cow for being a vegetarian.
We've agreed to keep in touch by phone and internet calls, but it won't be the same not seeing his face [not to mention his bod! ;)].

After that, I had to meet a family to discuss applying to med schools in the UK with their daughter. I had to wait for their call, so I sat down at the entrance of a building, listening to music. This little kitten with big eyes came to me when I whistled to it and then tried to scratch my hand. It climbed all over me - onto my thighs, on my bag, under my thighs, beside my shoe and it would've reached my head had I not stopped it. It was so adorable, poor thing hadn't had much to eat. What to do.. I didn't have anything to give!
