Appreciation

I go running everyday. Well, it's really more of jogging than running. And not everyday.. I usually skip the jog on Fridays when I go out with friends or family.

So anyways, every alternate day, I jog from home on Street 6 to Street 7 and then back home. Every time I jog there, I see this middle-aged Muslim lady who lives in one of the houses on the street, walking up and down the street. Just for exercise, you know? She has a dupattaa [long and usually colorful Indian scarf] wrapped around her head and she carries a tasbeeh [prayer beads, sort of like a rosary] in her hand, praying or reciting something as she walks. So I guess she must be pious.
Anyways, I notice her every time I jog on that street and she notices me too, but we never talk or even greet each other. Today, I was jogging, listening to Madonna singing La Isla Bonita and I could see her walking in my direction. She signaled me to stop and to take my headphones out of my ears, which I did.

"What is your name?"
"Daniyal."
"Oh. Where are you from?"
"Mmm, India."
"I really appreciate what you're doing."
"Thanks," I said, with a smile.
"Everyday I see you jogging and maasha Allah it's a very good habit."
"Thanks," I said again, smiling so much that it looked dangerous.
"Everyday I see you.. but I never stop and talk."
"Well, as-Salaam 'alaykum [peace be with you]!"
"Wa-'alaykum as-salaam. I have two sons who are about your age.. but they're always sitting in front of the television."
"Oh," I said, smiling again. Hey, maybe they're cute and gay!
"I want to make you meet."
"Yeah, I'd love to meet them," I said, not knowing what else to say.
"You should bring them on your track," she said, meaning that I should get them to jog as well.

So that was totally out of blue. This neigborhood is the most dead one in the world [and I actively contribute to its deadness], so it's a real surprise this nice lady spoke to me and actually tried to make conversation.

In other news, I have three frikkin' exams tomorrow. PHY 4 and PHY 5 in the morning and then Core Math 4 in the afternoon. I dunno why Edexcel, the board of education that's conducting these exams, is so fucked in the head. I had a thirteen-day break between my exam on May 23 and the next exam.. and this month? At least one exam every three days! Edexcel is such a buttmunch, sometimes.
I'm really worried about the differential equations in Core 4, even though I like calculus on the whole and am pretty good at it at this level.

Does anybody else support the conspiracy theory about 9/11 that it was the US government that orchestrated the attacks on the Twin Towers and the Pentagon? I watched the second edition of Loose Change today and it's just strengthened my belief in that theory.

us, politics, math, neighbor, 9/11, physics, exam, me
