Our Muslim neighbors

May 21, 2006 22:32

A few people from our local mosque came to visit us today evening, right before dinner. They were not like your Saturday morning guests, the missionaries from the Roman Catholic Church of Latter Day Saints [sic] - no, they were here to tell us about some meeting of local Muslim brothers that happens every Thursday evening, where Papa and I can go ( Read more... )

LOL...are your neighbors Sunni or Shi'ah? At least you didn't tell them of your sexual preferences--"I'll be a gay Muslim doctor! Will that do?" :-P Figures that it's in Sharjah, from what you've said about that place...

My neighbors? One family's American.. secular people I think. The other one used to be South African, but now they've moved out and now some Pakistani family has occupied the territory ;) I dunno if they're Sunni or Shi'as, haven't really talked to them.
The local mosque is Sunni-dominated. I knew just one Shi'a boy there.

I'm glad I didn't open my mouth about my sexuality.. they'd have thrown things :/

Are the mosques organised by laguage spoken/ethnic origin of worshippers or something?

The only ppl I know in the UK that are connected to a mosque in some way go to one that has ppl from all over the place, ethnic origin wise. But the kiddie Koran classes are held in English I think.

No, the mosques aren't really organized by any such criteria.. just any Muslim person can walk in and join the congregation in the mosque in any area. It's a very multi-cultural society.

The Qur'an classes here are often held in mosques, but they're in Arabic.. the non-Arabic ones are held in private institutions.

You should have been like "I am training to become a cage fighter. I am just going to the hospital to practice on the weaker patients until I am good enough to go against normal people." When they would look at you with astonishment, you could go "Oh, don't worry. I won't kill them. Besides, they are going to die anyway, right?"

You can probably tell why missionaries don't come to my house, huh? lol.

LOL.
Whacky idea #4590803 brought to you by Smart Alec-zander.

Another way to repel missionaries is to open the door naked and ask them if they can spot any zits on your ass. =D

You have more constraint than I sweet Danu! But being as they were guests in your parents home, you behaved very properly indeed... =) Did you offer them a hookah?
