Dragon Mart

Yesterday, we packed ourselves into my mom's four-wheel-drive and drove off to International City [a "suburb" of Dubai] where our family friends live. The drive was sort of long, but we got there.

International City, as you can imagine, has certain areas named after countries - like France, China, India etc. My friend Masooma decided to take Abeer and me to Dragon Mart, a local mall in Chinatown. But it was a long walk from her place to the Mart, so we hitched a ride there.

It was nothing like I'd thought it would be. The gargoyles at the entrance had me fooled for about five minutes; but inside, the mall was a barn. The girls and I headed off to a leather shop, full of bags, shoes and the like. It had those small boards hanging from the ceiling and they had the funniest things written on them.. stuff like: "Gragrant Like a Flower" [supposed to be 'fragrant', as you can guess] and "Elegant and Fahsionable" [fashionable], lol. Do they make such terrible blunders in China too? If so, I need to get my butt to China as soon as possible.

The girls looked for some more jewelry and soon enough, I got bored. Like seriously bored. Maybe I was just overwhelmed by the sheer amount of plastic around me or maybe the Chinese people just scared me [!!], but I started whining to go home. And Abeer, who usually knows better than to pay attention to my whining, listened to me and agreed to go back. I admit, though, I was really mean to her and was being very bitchy. I felt horrible about it afterwards.

Altogether, we spent about AED 10 there. That's probably equal to the entire annual income of China ;)

Back at Masooma's place, Abeer tried to paint my toenails while I was napping, but I woke up soon enough and rubbed the nailpolish off on her jeans. I am wicked.

china, bored, english, angry
