Had a fun time last night. Trumpet House had a party with the theme of "Heroes and Villains" or something. Superheroes, maybe. Lead to a lot of awesome costumes including Princess Leia, Indiana Jones, Juggernaut (with a cardboard-box helmet), all five planeteers, two Quailmen, two Poison Ivys, and a whole host of other crazy shit. I, for the record, went a bit more obscure and dressed as Alyx Vance from Half-Life 2. It was a relatively easy costume, since she's dressed pretty sensibly for an alien invasion. I was still rather proud of how exact I got it after studying pictures... I'd never noticed before the Black Mesa logo on her shirt (which I replicated with electrical tape) or the duct tape on her jacket's shoulder (luckily I also had duct tape).

My careful work was mostly for naught, though, since most people had no idea who I was and had never played the game. I felt a bit redeemed, though, when a few hours into the party some nerdy trumpet sophomore came up to me and was like "Are you... Alyx?" I bought the kid a shot for knowing and we had a nice little nerdy conversation about video games. It was rather funny when hours later still he pulled me aside into some light and was like "Holy shit; you're Crayola!" He hadn't recognized me in my costume. Maybe I'll upload some pictures later to facebook.

Tyler is gone. His parents and he and I all went together yesterday up to Camp Douglas for the little final family farewell. I managed not to cry, but really only because I'd already said so many goodbyes to him this month as he shuttled back and forth between Douglas and Madison. It felt like he'd been leaving for a month, and it was almost a relief to not have to go through it one more time.

Okay, well, that's the update. I should probably stop finding new ways to procrastinate and get back to studying for my two exams on Monday. Boo.
