Please tell me there are Ghost Whisperer fans on my flist, because the latest episode was AMAZING and I am dying to talk about it.

Ghost Whisperer 3x05 - Weight of What Was

WOW. That was amazing. In my last TV roundup post I talked about how they’d upped the ante in GH with scarier ghosts, more interesting plots and more mysteries. This episode just shows how much better the show could’ve been in the past.

This episode was basically as epic as a freaking season finale. Melinda gets a visit from a ghost called Tessa (played by Amy Acker aka Fred / Illyria off Angel!!!) who was killed in Grandview in 1848 because the townspeople thought she was witch after she warned them of a disease that was coming (it was ergot poisoning in their bread) because she’d been told by a ghost - she could see ghosts too. The ergot poisoning drove the people insane and a pastor locked his parishioners in the church and burnt it down. The survivors then built a new town of Grandview over the church, and Melinda went down into these tunnels to find it so she could cross the ghosts over, but her evil half-brother Gabriel (oh noes!!!) closed the opening so no one would know she was down there. The ghosts ended up turning on her and a cave in happened and she got trapped. Meanwhile, Delia and Professor Payne arrive at her house and Jim tells them she’s missing, so off they go in search of her.

Jim was like Action Man in this episode. When he realised there was another opening to the old church under Melinda’s shop he went at the wall in the basement with a freaking axe. Plus, there was an OMGZ moment when Melinda’s father’s ghost arrives and tells her and Tessa that Tessa is her ancestor, which was all emotional, because Tessa wouldn’t cross over because she thought her daughter died after she was killed, but obviously she didn’t.

Also I can’t tell if Melinda’s father is on the good side with Mel, or the dark side with her half-brother Gabriel because he went to Gabriel and said some cryptic stuff after Jim heroically rescued Mel. But seriously - epic episode. It was scary and mysterious and the season arc is already heavily in play, when in the previous two series it would only be mentioned in about 3 or 4 episodes throughout. Plus, season 2’s arc was kind of weak in the end - seriously, Melinda getting killed by a statue made out of tin pipes? That was ridiculous. Very squee-ful about GH this season thought. Will be watching with baited breathed.

Robin Hood 2x04 - The Angel of Death

RH series 2 is just on a roll. Every episode so far has been enjoyable, emotional, action-packed, all of them with great plots. This week we got the added plus of Harry Lloyd getting the chance to come forward and have a Will-centric episode. Will is so much like a part of the background it was weird seeing him actually have his own storyline, not to mention getting more to do than just making the latest maverick wooden device of the week.

Having already seen him as Baines in Human Nature/Family of Blood in Doctor Who, I knew what to expect acting wise, and he did not disappoint. The Sheriff has his father killed when he speaks out against the fake plague, and Will poisons the Sheriff in revenge. After he poisoned him, just his whole expression and the way his entire body was shaking as he realised he’d just murdered someone… it was fantastic acting. All of the folks in RH are good actors, but it’s performances like this that makes a sometimes slapstick and silly show just pure brilliant.

When Will thought Robin had drunk the poison in order to make him go and give the Sheriff the antidote, Harry’s acting was awesome! He was sobbing and shouting, and he was so devastated that Robin might die. I love when they show that devotion between the outlaws, and this was particular treat because we hardly see Will be anything other than stoic or amused.

Allan’s continuing betrayal has been fun to watch in development. I like the way they show him feeling guilty and reluctant to tell Guy stuff. When he saw that Robin’s contact had been caught because he’d told Guy about him, he was actually disappointed, which I liked. Next week it looks like his time is up. The trailer was a bit scary - Robin was punching and beating up each of the outlaws in turn… was it a fake out to smoke out the traitor or was it real? Argh! This series has just got me on edge, every time I finish an ep I just want to see the next one immediately!

Stardust

Went to see Stardust with the boyfriend last night. It was getting brilliant reviews and people kept saying it was a bit like The Princess Bride, which I own on DVD and *heart* muchly. It was definitely quirky but not AS quirky as TPB, but it was way more epic and visually breathtaking though. I loved it. I want it on DVD if it comes out for Xmas.

Yes, it was very clichéd, predictable, corny and had the happily ever after ending… but that’s the entire point of it all. It was supposed to be all those things, and that’s what I love it for. It was a very fun ride along the way though and that’s what matters. I mean, Sienna Miller playing a selfish, self-obsessed bitch? Thinly veiled portrayal of herself much? Robert De Niro as a gay pirate called Captain Shakespeare, who likes to dress in corsets and dance around? BEST. THING. EVER.

Michelle Pfeiffer was so so so fabulous too. And she’s hot. She’s getting on… but oh the hotness. Claire Danes as the star in question was so cute, her accent was perfect. And this Charlie Cox bloke who played Tristan was so adorable, and heroical, and very pretty on the whole.  All in all, it was the funest movie since ever. Veeeeery long though. Kind of too long actually. But it’s so shiny and funny and all that, that you won’t notice the time go by.

*is annoyed* The Sarah Connor Chronicles isn’t on until January, and this behind the scenes video of the cast just makes me want to see it MORE. I am in gay love with Summer Glau. She was basically crazy-making and schizo as River in Firefly, but in Serenity she was pretty hot. In this she’s even hotter. She is so gorgeous.

Making of TSCC photo shoot
The Sarah Connor Chronicle trailer (I LOVE that from this, the show seems to be more T2 than the abomination that was T3, they’ve even got the kick ass T2 theme playing over it. *swoons*)

And isn't my new desktop wallpaper the SEX??? Scarlett O'Hara FOR THE WIN!!! (The quote is something Rhett says, and it is so SO apt!)
