You Win Some, You Lose Some

If you're an FSU fan like me, then the last few days have been like an annoying roller coaster ride that never seems to stop. I guess it all started 13 days ago, when the program named offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher as "head coach in waiting," to succeed Bobby Bowden whenever he retires. I thought it was a brilliant move - for years, rival schools have been using Bobby Bowden's age against him in recruiting. Bobby is 78... The simple fact is, he's not going to be there for much longer!

So the school turned to Jimbo, who's just finishing up his first season as offensive coordinator. Jimbo has done some MAJOR recruiting for the 'Noles over the past few months, snagging 5-star QB EJ Manuel from Virginia as well as a slew of other blue chippers. The contract he signed included a buy-out clause - if he even talked to another school before the end of the 2010 season, he's owe FSU 2.5 million dollars. All was good in the Seminole nation... We had a clear plan for the future as well as an excellent coach-in-waiting.

And then Rich Rodriguez took the damn Michigan job.

When Rodriguez left West Virginia for the Wolverines, rumors began to swirl. Yesterday it was revealed that Jimbo was their top choice and there were more than enough boosters willing to put up the cash for his FSU buy-out. Even worse, there was total silence from the Fisher camp... Just twelve days after standing in front of everybody and proclaiming how happy he was, he was thinking about jumping. Jimbo's a West Virginia native, but has never been a head coach before. It was absolutely unbelievable how hard WVU was going after him! I spent all day dreading when my phone would finally vibrate and I'd get a text confirming he was gone (as well as most of our offensive recruiting class, most likely).

Then, just fifteen minutes ago he issued a statement: "I know media reports are circulating regarding the possibility of West Virginia's head coaching position. I am a native of West Virginia and love the state but I want to make clear that I am staying at Florida State. I am committed to this university, this program and these players. I am excited about where I am and where Seminole football is headed."

So he's staying... For now at least. I'm so relieved! If he had left, it would have set the program back YEARS. Hopefully, future interested schools will get the message: "F'N HANDS OFF!" :-) A nice win for FSU!

Ah, but you know who didn't have a nice win today? My Fantasy Football team, which laid an egg in the league championship game. >=( I think I have 74 points right now; my worst score ever. WTF, Green Bay!? Tom Brady and Randy Moss did decently (they make up over half of my score), but EVERYONE else tanked. The other guy has 130 points and there's NO way Clinton Portis is going to score more than 56 points. Oh well. :-( I was in first place the WHOLE SEASON. Sigh.

college football, wtf, worries, fantasy football, fsu
