More Car Stuff

More car problems found. It looks like damage caused by a deliberate attempt by the previous owner or used car place to sneak one past so no one would notice that the cooling system was leaking, so service plan won't cover it. Another $400 on the bill; up to $1,200 now. *sigh* On the bright side, the flaky cam reset valve that periodically threw up the Check Engine code WILL be fixed. Yay! :)

They are also going to do up and estimate on all of the suspension work that needs to be done. Based on the prices they listed off to me, it should be quite a bit cheaper than the $1,300 that Les Schwab quoted me when I got the tires replaced, and yet they found stuff that Les Schwab missed.

After this, they'll do some heavier tests on the transmission, drive the car over a few steep hills to see how it reacts . . . That will tell if the flush and software update really fixed the problem, or just eased things up a little on a failing transmission. If it works, I'll have it back next Tuesday. If not, it'll be another week or so after that to get the transmission removed, every piece tested -- service plan apparently wants to know the specific part that has failed, even if the solution is to replace the whole darned thing -- then replace it, all of which looks like it will be covered. In the meantime, getting used to busing it everywhere, though it's still very limiting. Might rent a car for a weekend to take care of some holiday errands.
