So, we had a bit of an adventure tonight.
Quick note: I know most people don't visit graves, for whatever reason. I also don't talk about my personal religious beliefs on here, mainly because I believe faith is a deeply personal thing, and I know what I believe and that's enough for me. But I do visit my daughter's grave on a regular basis. It's not that it makes me feel close to her there, because I know she's always with me. I think at first it was just somewhere to go where I could be left alone. But it's also always been a way to keep the boys connected with their sister. They love to pick out flowers/balloons/toys/whatever to take to her. (Also, she's part of their everyday lives too. Quite often when strange things happen, they blame their sister. They like to write their name and draw hearts on balloons and let them go to the sky. Kelly Marie regularly steals balloons if we don't give them to her, lol.)
Anyway, Kelly Marie's 10th birthday is next Friday, and I won't be able to make it to Blacksburg then, so we went up there this evening. Harley was driving because I'm an awesome sister, and maybe a little because I like to freak my mom out (my mom still covers her eyes when I merge onto the interstate and I've been driving since I was 12, she's so much worse with Harley driving). We get to Bburg and park the car, and I left my phone on the seat because I had been texting on the drive up and I didn't need my phone. Harley left the keys on the driver's seat of the van (I tend to leave them in the ignition most of the time. The bad habits you pick up living in a small town.) and she and I got about ten feet from the van and heard the 'click' of the automatic locks. We both stopped, looked at each other, and looked back at the van. We had all the windows up because we'd bought balloons so the A/C was a better option coming up the road.
So, my van is locked, with my keys and my phone inside it, in a cemetery. At dusk.
My brother came to rescue us, since he has the spare key to my car (yall know that story right? keys locked in my car with the car running at 3am in the firelane at walmart in the rain?), but he took like two hours to get there. Bburg is only half an hour away from me, but he had to finish up cheer practice and go get the key and get my mom's car b/c his didn't have enough gas and then there was road work on the interstate. Blah.
It's not like we were in the middle of nowhere -- the cemetery is blocks away from downtown Blacksburg and Virginia Tech -- but it was still creepy, especially with the almost-full moon and the way it was getting dark and chilly. And we were walking around looking at the other stones (my kids love to go walking "in the dead people's place") and there was one that just said "3 unknowns, Rt 114, 1986" and it seriously gave both me and Harley chills. Also, the kids and I went to the opposite end of the cemetery to find Michael Whitaker's grave, which led to me talking about him and Judd, and then about Davey (my ex-hubby's best friend who was murdered the summer I was pregnant with Kelly Marie -- he's the one Davey is name after, obviously).
Anyway, it was pretty creepy, lol. The boys said Kelly Marie just wanted her Uncle RT to come see her. Idk. But it was an adventure. Especially with the boys being them and talking about zombies and vampires and things.
Also, Johnathan is a cheater. He cheated at bowling this afternoon and still lost. (okay, so we were using bumper guards, so we were both cheating, kinda. but he was using the kiddie ramp!) Then we were all taking turns playing air hockey and he was trying to distract me so Harley would win, and he had me laughing because he was all "I'm gonna distract you so your sister can win, lalala, how can I distract you?" and then he's like "OH! I know how to distract you! BertQuinnJephaDan!" Loser. Well, in this case the loser was ME b/c Harley got the game-winning point after that b/c I was laughing too hard to even see the puck, but whatever.
OH AND GUESS WHAT???? I got the other UHG job! So starting Tuesday (Monday is a holiday, and also Harley's 16th bday!) I'm back to working 8:30 to 5. YAYES!!!
P.S.
COME PLAY WITH ME!
