Door weatherstripping

One of our doors is warped, allowing a persistent cold draft to enter the house. Installing seasonal weatherstripping tape is at best a temporary solution and a weekly nuisance to reseat.

My permanent solution is to install a new door stop with integrated weatherstrip. Home Depot carries a manufactured kit but I am unwilling to pay $22 each. Mine creation uses the same manufacturer's door seal and combines it to pre-primed $0.58/ft wood trim. Total project cost is $18 for two doors versus $44.

My methodology:
1) Visualize where you would like to place the trim. Measure this length.
2) Use sharp scissors to cut the door seal to length.
3) Saw the door trim to length.
4) Using a 1" nail, nail one end of the door seal close to the top end of the door frame.
- Inspect how the door seal drapes and ensure it does not impede with door operation.
5) Nail the other end of the door seal. Reinspect.
6) With the door closed (to ensure a seal and non-interference of the door seal), place the wood trim against the seal.
- Incompletely nail the trim towards the top, inspect the overall fit.
- Incompletely nail the trim towards the bottom, reinspect the fit.
- If not completely satisfied, make the necessary adjustments.
7) Nail the trim into place. The seal will hold since it's held in place by two nails and pressure from the trim.

The doors now open and close with a satisfying vacuum sound and the draft is gone. The trim provides an unintended visual appeal to both doors now and abates my desire to replace them.
