Kanna had a startling revelation from the doctor the other day. I won't go into details, but she really needs to lower her cholesterol and bring her sugar down. well, i can't help too much as i'm a vegetarian with vegan tendencies, but what about raw foods? i'm not sure what fruits/vegetables she's allergic to, but the raw food diet is actually incredibly healthy and eliminates a lot of the starches, carbs and sugars that refined foods have, and if you do a bit of work with it, can be *really* tasty. i've made a few things out of my raw foods cookbook that turned out great.

I'm not much help as far as suggestions but I do agree with you as far as "healthy" foods not necessarily being healthier. Last time Adrian and I went on a health kick we found that the Weight Watchers brand everything had a higher fat, sugar, calories than majority of their competitors. In fact, reading the calorie counting section on the back of most things really showed us we were okay buying most of the stuff we were already buying!!

Also, eating home cooked over store bought meals can cut back on the additives. But, you probably already know that. :)

Check out allergy cookbooks, they'll have some nifty alternative ideas. Look at cookbooks from your local library, usually there's one for every ailment or lifestyle. You may find one that has some alternative sweet treat ideas that contain less sugar, but still satisfy that craving. You also consider looking into vegetarian or vegan cookbooks, just see what sounds interesting. You can always add meat later.

I had some other suggestions, but at the moment I can't think of them.

I know it's hard to change your lifestyle, but I know that both of you can do it. Good Luck!
