Rome

visited the colleseum, the roman forum, the pantheon, the spanish
steps, and the fountain with the name that i do not know how to spell.
it was pretty hot today, but we made it. luckily there are a lot of
water fountains that are all around the city to fill our water bottles
in.  This has been common in italy so far.  and the water is always
pretty good.  we had were part of a tour group for the begining of the
day which let us get to the front of the line of the colleseum and
learn about it - which is other wise not really avaiable for free.
the line was probably 2 hours long at least if we were not part of a
group.  then after we got a tour of the old city of rome which is
pretty cool.  where the city was first settled and stuff.  though the
christians stole all of the good stuff when they took over the city.
and tried to remove alot of the roman things.  this did not work all
the time, especially in front of one of the pagan temples that became
a church.  they later tried to take down the columns that were in
front of the church but could not do it.  technology 400 years later
could not take down columns that the romans put up.  granted they were
solid marble and probably 30 tons and one third of which was under all
of the silt and dirt that had built up.  these columns were next to a
building that has columns that are made up of marble that are worth
the same as gold per pound. (though you can not get the marble any
more really, because the vatican used the rest of it.)

tomorrow we go to the vatican see all of the cool stuff there and
anything that we may have missed in the city.

lots of photos taken so far - less than 100 pics left on my 1 gig card and i only took one small movie - though i am sure a lot of the photos suck.
