the limits of my understanding

I am jewish as well, full blooded (is there such a thing? can religion be genetic?)

No, but it's also a culture. If it were only a religion it wouldn't make sense for me to refer to myself as a half-jew. But if you needed a bone marrow transplant, it'd have to be from another Ashkenazi Jew because you are a full blooded Ashkenazi Jew.

That's horrible about your great-grandfather. While I'm not surprised that Jews got a lower level of medal, it's weird that they chose to openly change the medal once they found out what he was. People are usually more subtle about discrimination. And the fact that it was during WWII just makes it that much worse. But there were people in this country who felt that what Hitler was doing wasn't so bad.

She thought that the father had sex with his thirteen-year-old daughter??? That's the sort of situation where I'd probably keep talking to them just to see if there were any other myths I could help to dispel. That's why it took me so long to give up on the Egyptian guy (the posts I linked to.) I kept thinking that I could make him understand what I was saying and get him to understand. It was only when it became clear that that just wasn't going to happen that I stopped dealing with him.

Your rambling is always forgiven.
