The transition to college has been surprisingly smooth so far. My roommate and I share a several interests, and seem to have similar senses of humor, which for me, is essential. The plan is to guilt each other into different obligations -- for me, she guilts me into going to shul on shabbat, and I guilt her into going to the gym. I've only worked out once since orientation, which I feel sort of bad about, but when things settle down and classes start, it should be a little easier to keep a more regular schedule.
I've been to a couple of parties, consumed beverages, but the best night was last night. A small group of freshmen (3 guys from my hall, a mutual friend from another hall, Megan and myself) sat in the grass on the green and talked about philosophy, religion, society and a whole mess of other stuff. We talked for TWO HOURS. It was exactly what college should be like -- an exchange of ideas and experiences that expands your view of life. It was interesting, funny, and made me so happy to be a Penn. I really feel like this was the right choice.
We had convocation in the pouring rain tonight. That was not fun. Thankfully the dorm isn't that far from the main quad, so made it back fairly dry. Megan and Mike (he lives across the hall in a single) went to an ice cream social organized by their peer adviser, but afterwards the plan is to watch the new episode of House I taped while we were being "convocated." :)
Classes start tomorrow. The only one I have on Wednesdays is Hebrew at 11, so I should be able to get some errands done, maybe run to the gym in the afternoon. Penn Dems meeting tomorrow night at 7, which I'm excited about. I'm actually ready for classes - I have a bizarre desire to learn and better myself. Don't worry, in a week I'll be sick of all the work again and praying for vacation.
Catch ya on the flip side.
PS: Megan and I created a new slang phrase. Stacks = cool. Spread it around, please.
