So, to make a long story short, I moved to Australia to do my PhD and I am on paper doing a PhD in Health Science. What area my PhD is actually in changes like a chameleon, but let's just call it Cultural Studies.
At any rate, here I sit (well, here I sit in my housecoat having just had a shower, but normally I am at my uni office) in this research centre where people are always doing all sorts of interesting things on various STIs. Like, tracking their progress through social networking sites like Facebook. You see, things like Facebook facilitate people meeting up for encounters of a sexual nature, and sometimes things like syphilis happen. Sometime things like syphilis happen in a whole outbreak of a concerning nature to those public health types.
So the way I see this fight going down is that Facebook fascilitates the spread of syphilis, and then a core chunk of it's users get the syph. Those users are going to be pretty pissed off about a) getting the syph, and b) being informed they prolly have it by some public health person sending them a message going "hello, we have been creeping you details and have noticed that you hooked up with a certain person suspected of syphilis. You will need to be medicated now."
