Gluttony is a cardinal sin, one of the seven cardinal sins, as opposed to the virtue of Temperance. In order for us to be without sin, we must be careful not to engage in it and instead, practice Temperance-- only taking that which we must and abstaining from taking more.
What determines Gluttony? It is taking more than you need, seeking out more when your cup runneth over, but is Gluttony also taking more than your fair share when only so much is available? What of taking it when you could do without, although it makes you uncomfortable to do so? Taking things that belong to others because we can't live without?
These are questions we must all ask ourselves.
Once again, let us pray.
O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee, and I detest all my sins, known and unknown, not only because I dread the loss of heaven and dread the pains of hell, and not only because Thou art my Creator, my Redeemer and my Sanctifier, but most of all because my sins have offended Thee, my God, Who art all good in Thyself and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of Thy grace, to confess my sins, to do penance and to amend my life.
Amen.
