Wheee! iansmomesq sent me 4 cds of Marillion!

*does MHD in the driveway ... gets funny looks from neighbours ... doesn't care*

King of Sunset Town - A very bold song to begin the cd with, that's for sure. Finishes on a sweet note with piano as a contrast. Ringing guitar solos and no vocals until nearly halfway into the song - these boys mean business :)

Easter - A pointed contrast to KOST, pretty and light vocal harmonies over tinny steelstring and keyboards. It runs like an Irish ballad, I'm almost waiting for the violin and flute .... ahhh, there it is! LOL!

The Uninvited Guest - Intricate percussive introduction, very foot-tapping progression into chorus, heavier on the guitars. "Cos I'm the one who knows what scares you ... the one who loves you best ..." Oooo.

Season's End - Just plain pretty! Hogarth sounds awesome on this one.

Holloway Girl - This song has closing credits of a blockbuster movie written all over it, lol. It's dramatic, it's moving, it's polished.

Berlin - Much sparer than the other tracks so far. Saxophone! Wasn't expecting that! There's a lot of feeling in this one, and a real sense that this song is designed to tell a story and tug at your heartstrings.

After Me - Love it. Unexpected chorus ... totally not the direction I expected the song to go based on the rest of the album. I'd love to get an acoustic version of this, pare it down a bit so I can hear the voice and the guitar together.

Hooks In You Not a fan of the keyboards in this one, but the song is a toe-tapper ... no question.

The Space - Great way to finish the ablum - haunting, relies heavily on vocals and harmonies without losing the grandiose sound of the album as a whole. Easily one of my favourite tracks.

My conclusion - Marillion is like Irish folk gone prog rock. I like!
