20 Weeks to 50: Alien Bodies

Jul 06, 2013 11:01

We're now into the top 20 of my 50th Anniversary countdown of aggregated poll results for Doctor Who Books, TV Serials & Audio Dramas, with number 20:

20. Alien Bodies

Doctor: 8th (Paul McGann)
Companions: Sam
Aliens: Quite a number of different bidders but Time Lords, Daleks and Krotons are the key species to watch out for.
Synopsis:
In a city that doesn't exist Quixotl is auctioning off a relic, a mysterious and powerful corpse that could change the tide of any war. However, the truth is more horrific than The Doctor could have imagined.
Why is it so well loved?
1. It is the starting point for the major plot threads of the BBC books for the next 3 years.
2. It is probably one of the key inspirations behind Steven Moffat's tenure (although Miles hates the result)
3. Miles somehow manages to make the Krotons both interesting and formidable.
Statistical Snippet
This is easily the most popular of the early (Pre-Ancestor Cell) 8th Doctor books and those written by Lawrence Miles. The next nearest for both is Interference at #84.
