As most of you will probably know, in 50 Weeks time it will be Doctor Who's 50th Anniversary. Now, for many years I have been keeping an aggregated score of Doctor Who story polls, combining them for Books, TV Serials and Audio-Dramas*. Therefore, I thought it would be a fitting tribute to count down the results for the most loved Doctor Who stories.
*I'm afraid I didn't have enough data to include comic strips.
50. The Horror of Fang Rock
Doctor: 4th (Tom Baker)
Companion: Leela
Monster: Rutans
Synopsis: On Fang Rock, the lighthouse's light is failing, causing both the TARDIS and a luxury yacht to become stranded. However, something else is trapped in the fog, a creature who poses a threat to the survival of the entire planet.
Why is it so well loved?
1. It is among the most dark, claustrophobic and gothic stories the show has made.
2. Despite some cheap design work, the creature is shown to be extremely powerful and the Doctor's fear of it makes it all the more chilling.
3. The regulars are at the top of their game, with the Doctor and Leela desperately trying to take charge when surrounded by petty squabbling humans.
