I'm not sure whether this will mean anything whatsoever to those of you outside the UK, but the Beeb keep finding new and suprising ways of promoting Who, none more surprising than the announcement that:

The identity of the actor who will be playing Twelve's new companion in Series 10 will be revealed during half time of the FA Cup semi-final

Yes, and even if the clothes in the scene looked present-day(ish), the people from Satellite Five don't dress much different than their 2005 counterparts - and that was built in the year 199909.

I've seen people saying that those are clothing items from the 1980's, so she's likely to be from there at the earliest.

It's also possible that she's from before that, and picked those items of clothing because she was going in the "future" in that episode.

She could easily even be an alien, the Doctor has travelled with human-looking aliens before. Susan and Romana were both Time Lords just like him and wore human clothing to blend in just like he did. So I guess many Time Lords wear Earth clothing to blend in, and thus there's much of that clothing in TARDIS wardrobes as well as clothing from various other planets.

There were three other companions that weren't human or Gallifreyan\Time Lord, AKA Adric, Nyssa, and Turlough. Turlough mostly wore the uniform of the school he was exiled to, and Nyssa started wearing Earth clothing at one point. Adric kept on wearing the outfit he kept from Alzarius, but I guess that if he was in more episodes, he'd start to wear other clothing.

BTW, I think her full name will be Wilhelmina Tree (sort-of parallel to Mel) and the Doctor will met her in a Dalek-infested stadium (a part of which we see in the prewiew) and the year could easily be anywhere from 1976 onwards.
