After many failed attempts at trying to read the bible once through with a few different reading plans, I decided to embark on my own plan i.e. read the bible from cover to cover and finish it at my own pace. Of course, along the way I got distracted and skipped days here and there. Also, I got extremely intimidated by Revelation, after finishing Jude. (I actually finished Jude on 2nd June 2010 but I reread fave books like Romans and Psalms, before finally starting on Revelation, but my study bible helped a lot.)
After slightly under 2 years, I am proud to say that I have accomplished this feat :)
Start date: 18th December 2008
End date: 31st August 2010
...with my trusty log book/journal :)
There were many periods of drought here and there when I felt quite discouraged 'cause it felt like I was reading a really boring book and just wasn't getting the spiritual food that I needed and wanted. But I think, looking back on the past years, I realize that although I may not have noticed while I was in the midst of it, but God has really shown me so much more, and changed me a lot during this period. And there were definitely many times the words came to life and brought me so much comfort. So, thank You for this wonderful journey :) (Now Idk what to do for QT hahahaha, character/book studies perhaps?)
And oh, Revelation is really pretty interesting :)
Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war. His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns. He had a name written that no one knew except Himself. He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. And the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses. Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.
Revelation 19:11-16 (NKJV)
Cool and grand, yes? :)
Also ties in with what John Piper said in his audio sermon (thanks Miao!).
"Here I am, longing, praying, pleading, that you would receive this gift. Give yourself to the word of God in 2010. It’s the word of God. Let that sink in. It’s the word of God. (laughs) God! God! GOD! The maker of heaven and earth, holding all the universe in being and knowing everything that can possibly be known has spoken. Takes your breath away that it sits on the shelf. Incomprehensible blindness. Incomprehensible deadness. Incomprehensible numbness of the human soul. So I’m pleading that God would change, now."
It happened for me :) (I didn't even know John Piper existed then though ><)
(Academics-wise, not looking too good though... Concentrate, Chloe! ):< )
