THANK GOD

I feel the reports and the rumours have been playing with my emotions to a degree that the movies could only dream of.

First, we were going to have Evil Dead 4.

Then, we were going to have Freddy vs Jason vs Ash

Then we weren't.

Then... the remake.

As much as I want to ignore it or change it, it's looks like its going to happen for sure. But the news I've been hearing lately seems a little bit more re-assuring. $am Raimi and Robert Tapert haven't even HEARD of the guy who plays stifler from american pie, let alone are they considering him for the role of ash. But now the genie is out of the bottle, who knows?

But this part of an interview is the one that really makes me a little more comfortable with the whole debacle:

"There will be an Evil Dead 4, and there will ALSO be an Evil Dead Remake. The remake will be produced by Ghost House pictures, (his company with Tapert) and it will star a new cast and a completely new director. The point of Ghost House is that we want to bring new directors (like Takashi Shimizu of "the Grudge" to Hollywood and give them a chnace to make a good horror film."

That's right: he's doing a Bruce Campbell sequel independently. But he's also giving the original concept to another director to develop however they wish. Sound at all familiar? Not even a little? This might clear it up a little:

"I love the original Dawn of the Dead, and I also really enjoyed the new Dawn of the Dead. I mean, they are both really great horror films. I want to let somebody with a fresh vision bring The Evil Dead to a new generation and a new audience with a different vision."

So that's it... he got the idea from Dawn of the Dead. Finally, I have some handle on the unholy logic behind this decision. I've been hearing different things, but only time will tell if it's a remake of evil dead 1, 2 or both.

Even better yet, apparently Sam and Ted Raimi have actually begun writing Evil Dead 4 for production later in the year.

Is this all true? I hope so. The remake is 100% confirmed. So the only thing that can save Sam Raimi's soul from eternal damnation would be for all this to be true. It's from pretty reliable sources, plucked from interviews about his upcoming production "Boogeyman".
