Character Name: Belarus, or in Mayfield it would be Natalia Arlovskaya
Character Series: Axis Powers Hetalia
Character Age: Around 800 years old
Background: History + Hetalia Profile + TV tropes Uncyclopedia
Personality:  Belarus is sort of like a terrier. She’s loud, she barks a lot, she’ll chase you down and has fierce loyalty to whomever she likes, meaning Russia. However, despite all the barking, the clawing down doors and ripping off of doorknobs, Belarus has historically been occupied more often than it has been free. Her relations are closely tied to her, with her being highly dependent on her brother Russia and dependent on her sister Ukraine. The only person we’ve seen her physically harm has been Lithuania, who likes her and didn’t even notice his fingers methodically being broken.

She tends to yell people into submission, as she does in the Christmas special when dealing with Finland, however, she can be reasoned with if given proper incentive.  Namely, her brother. She has a deep passion for him that’s she’s had ever since she was a child. As a child, she isn’t shown to want to marry him, though close to him. She isn’t shown to be pursuing him for marriage until after the Soviet Union dissolves, though his expression is dismayed, it doesn’t seem particularly surprised, so perhaps it was even before then.

The Great Patriotic War was a defining factor of Belarusian culture. Around 1/3 of the population was lost and they along with Ukraine were accepted into the UN because of their losses. July 3 is celebrated in Belarus as a national holiday, the day the Soviets entered Minsk and liberated the city. It is a deep factor in Belarus’ history, and thus in headcanon, the reason she went from loving her brother to wanting to marry him.

Belarus is nostalgic for Soviet times, and misses being close to her brother at all times. She left with her sister, but she said quite simply “it didn’t feel right” without her brother there. Naturally it wouldn’t, considering her presence in the series is mostly as Russia’s shadow, glaring at his enemies where he gives a smile and agreeing with whatever he wants. And asking to be married. All the time. She loves her brother so much, it is said, that she is forgetting her language. Being the last dictatorship in Europe, she has been said in Hetalia to be a problem, and after the dissolution of the USSR she was taken in by America as a sort of sister-figure and wore him out.

It's no wonder she wore him out. Belarus is terrifying. Horrifying. Gruesome. This must be said. She stalks her brother, in a nightmarish fashion. She also has a fondness for creepy things, such as ghosts, the Winchester Mansion, and the Mary Celeste among other things. She likes rock music and has been known to tote around a knife (the knife being the real problem). She has a bit of a potty mouth and can be hyper-aggressive. (Like threatening people with said knife, breaking fingers, telling Finland to suck Russia's balls and threatening to throw her sister into an oven.) In real life terms, "Belarus has willingly demonstrated its increased military activity at the borders of the Baltic States" and she has made friendships with Iran (though it wasn't all that beneficial for either of them), China, Venezuela, and Cuba, all of whose governments are either anti-American and/or have questionable human rights records. This gives her a bit of a reputation that can make normally flippant people a bit wary.

Belarus is also bullheaded. She continually pursues a man who is her brother and apparently does not return the sentiment. She is not deterred in the slightest and even if he locks himself up, she will break off his doorknob to get into his room with him. Instead of attacking others who Russia shows interest in, she forces herself on her brother to make her point.  Belarus is aware that Russia’s interests in other people are not often both-ways, and the time she spends harassing someone useless would be better spent with Russia. Thus, in her infamous door-breaking scene, she isn’t attacking a lover of Russia’s, but confronting him asking him if he really loves this other person so much and insisting they get married. Otherwise, he’d be sicking Belarus on other countries to get her off his back. Even outside of Hetalia, the bullheaded approach towards things persists. Rather than approach Lithuania when they had plans to "build a depository of spent materials from the Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant next to the Belarusian border," Belarus announced their plans "to build two giant pig breeding facilities in the immediate vicinity of the territory of Lithuania". But despite this way of thinking, Lithuania seems to like her, nonetheless. He has called her "strong yet cute."

And Belarus is surprisingly cute, in a scary way. She can get nervous, such as when realizing that her brother would be watching and trying to decide whether or not to smile, with smiling winning out (but only for her brother). She can also be very quiet and low key when deciding to do something. She broke Lithuania’s fingers without a word, and when returning to Russia her explanation was short and she even went for most of the conversation without mentioning marriage (most meaning 2 out of 3 sentences). She was also seen standing with Russia after his meeting with G8 calmly, not a word of marriage and without threatening or harming England who implied kicking Russia out (though she did give him quite the glare). Also, it can be noted that Belarus hasn’t been shown to physically hurt anyone in the series except for Lithuania, who certainly didn’t complain. (Though she has threatened Latvia with a knife, and would no doubt be more than willing to result to the knife if she needed to, considering her personality.)

Abilities: That she scares Russia might be a legitimate ability, except he also is frightened by chain letters from Poland. She's surprisingly strong for her size, capable of breaking bones easily, breaking through doors by ripping off doorknobs and her nails are ridiculously hard and sharp, enough that she can leave deep furrows in wooden doors just by scratching. She also has the capabilities of nations, meaning she can and has lived for a very long time and can take more than your average human. Russia has jumped from a plane without a parachute and managed only to break his legs instead of dying. Economic situations in Russia are likely to affect Belarus, seeing as she is highly dependent on him, so if he gets sick, so would she, were they nations.
