Something to think about. The freedoms those in the United States enjoy are paid for in the blood of veterans. If you have voted thank your veterans for the privilege. If you have attended a rally against the government thank your veterans...Watched the news lately? Been to church (or whatever religious ritual you favor)? Carried a firearm? Noticed we don't hail Hitler? Crossed state lines without a checkpoint? Been to school? Didn't notice the color of skin of those around you?
Thank your veterans. We are forgotten, ignored, called names, flipped off...And through all of this we fight for our country. For our freedoms. For you. For your freedoms. We get little pay, horrible housing, lukewarm food, shoot at, blown up, and we still fight. For you. For your son or daughter. For America.
Remember veterans. Remember that no one who fights now was forced, or drafted. We volunteered. I volunteered. I was called a baby killer by some random stranger in an airport while changing station. I thanked her for her support of the defense of her country and about gave her a heart attack.
Thank veterans. Thank those currently serving. They deserve better than being called names. They deserve better than being forgotten. When you see the red poppies begin offered by the VFW for a donation, think about showing your support. Think about donating your old cell phone to be used by a soldier. Think about writing a letter to a unit (it wouldn't actually matter which unit, those letters get passed around until they fall apart).
Freedom is not free. It is paid for in the blood and death of bright young men and women who serve and die for the privilege of defending the United States of America. May they rest, finally, in peace.
