Von den Elben

I just have to share an exciting discovery I made today - the well-known English artist Brian Froud (illustrator of faeries and goblins) has designed the whole artwork for the new, fifth album "Silver Swan" of my favourite band “QNTAL”! (Shame on me, for not knowing this wonderful artist until today! Hint especially to Este - Wendy Froud is an extraordinary doll-maker, have a look at their website! )

On the band’s website you can watch the beautiful, enthralling video clip “Von den Elben” (“About the Elves”), a real work of art, if you ask me. It takes a few minutes to download, but it’s definitely worth it - you find it here (go to "music").  --- Absolutely gorgeous colouring, highly picturesque and symbolic --- in the words of Froud’s website: “reminiscent of a magically charged mirror that opens into a mystical, parallel universe”… (I also found a youtube link to the video. You can watch it here.
If you would like to download and save the video, rather go to the QNTAL site, the video there is a much better quality than the youtube one)

As for the QNTAL album: “Silver Swan”, a madrigal by the British composer, Orlando Gibbons (1583 - 1625), to which the most recent oeuvre by the border-transcending trio, QNTAL, owes its title, is also marked by troubles. More geese than swans now live, more fools than wise, read the disillusioned lyrics of the piece, released for the first time in 1612.

QNTAL is one of the most innovative bands that interpret “Old Music”, but in such a creative modern way. I love them, since they manage to connect the old with the new - it’s a bit of alchemy.
