Jaimie Barton and Charlie Webster felt that Emily Burrows made their day. Not only could she use words in a most fluid and clever fashion but, she figured out Devon Frampton for the scoundrel and womanizer that he was. Both young men looked at Emily in a new light.
"We were going to warn you, honest!" Charlie then exclaimed.
"Tell me, what were you going to warn me about." Emily asked, figuring it was about Devon's personality.
"Devon Frampton. He fancies himself as quite the ladies man. And he always gravitates towards the beautiful women who frequent this pub. But, once he gets them, he has this terrible way of just dropping them by the wayside to get to his next conquest. He's very low." Charlie then explained.
"But our American friend figured him out! She's brilliant, I tell you!" Jaimie went on praising Emily.
Emily gave Jaimie a sweet, friendly grin. "I must confess, I had a brief encounter of the chilly kind earlier this morning." Emily said and grinned.
"Really, go on." Charlie then looked both ways and slid in to the booth next to Jaimie to listen.
"I was telling Jaimie that this morning I went the employment agency. As I was waiting at the corner for the light to change, Devon came up next to me. He tried to flirt with me as we waited to go with the group there at the crosswalk. Something in those eyes, he just made me feel so uncomfortable." Emily told them.
"Uncomfortable isn't the best of it, love." Charlie added.
"I thought he was going to follow me but, it seems he walked towards the pub then. I didn't think anything more of it till just a few minutes ago." Emily said.
"Well, now you know." Jaimie said.
"And love, fair warning. He won't give up. He likes you. Don't think he's had an American girl before." Charlie warned.
"Well, he's a bit late if he's interested in me. I was just about to tell Jaimie about my new friend." Emily said and then let her eyes go to Jaimie and then back to Charlie. She had a very attractive look upon her face.
"You've found someone!" Charlie said, leaning forward more and looking pleased.
"More like he found me. And let me tell you both, it's like something out of a story. You won't believe it. I will have to see about bringing him around to meet you both." Emily said.
"Well go on, don't keep me in suspenders any longer, eh?" Jaimie asked.
Emily giggled at Jaimie's suspenders joke, then hesitated for a touch of drama, took in a breath and began to tell the story.
