Catching Up

Jaimie decided that Charlie Webster would have things in control now and keep Devon at bay. He gave the room one more glance and did not see either Charlie or Devon so brought his gaze back to his lovely American friend, Emily.
"Right. So, how was your morning?" Jaimie Barton asked.
"I went to the employment agency today." Emily then gave Jaimie a pleased grin.
"You did, did you? Good for you, love!" Jaimie replied.
"Of course I'm not sure what I'll be getting in to but, it will be nice to have a job." Emily said and then she picked up her sandwich.
"Well, I wish you all the best." Jaimie replied and he followed suit with his own lunch.
"Emily, how are you doing now?" Jaimie then asked after his first bite of his sandwich.
"Fine. I do like it here in England. I've been lucky as the weather has been so beautiful. That gives me the chance to get to know my surroundings here. And I'm so glad because I came to this pub and met you. You are my first friend here in the UK, Jaimie." Emily said and gave him an affectionate grin.
"Emily, I'm glad I met you as well, love." Jaimie said and he could just feel inside that she was sincere and he was glad for it.
They went on talking about their week and then Emily decided to mention to Jaimie of her second English friend.

"You've been busy then. What else have you been up to besides checking out the town then?" Jaimie asked.
"Well...Jaimie I have a second friend now." Emily then took a sip of her drink and waited for Jaimie's reaction.
"Really?" Jaimie then looked up and in his mind he thought she might have meant a friend of the female persuasion.
"I met someone who has swept me off my feet. And I can truly say, swept me off my feet." Emily said and gave a brilliant and giddy grin.
Jaimie's eyes grew wider and he did not say a word.
"Oh Jaimie, it's like I'm in a dream world. Truly! I am just so happy and I can't tell you how much because I can not put it in to words." Emily said and she was beaming across the table with a unmistakable glow of being in love.
Jaimie still did not respond verbally but then his eyes were not looking right at her.
"Jaimie, did you hear me, friend?" Emily asked now seeing he was not looking at her but, then she noticed the expression on his face.
"Cor crikey, ." Jaimie muttered under his breath.
"What is it?" Emily wondered what was wrong.
"Emily, I must make this quick...oh bugger!" Jaimie said to Emily in a low voice but, then Emily leaned to her right and turned her head to see in the direction that Jaimie had been looking.

Emily then saw the man she had met in the crosswalk. The one who was very polite but, in a sinister way. Emily felt the hairs on her neck suddenly raise up.
Devon Frampton seemed to glide across the floor in a masculine, confident, haughty manner. His eyes fixed upon Emily and then this grin suddenly came upon his face in a flicker. In Devon's cold blue eyes was a look of lust and over confidence that made Emily then feel dislike towards this person.
"Well hello. I hate to use a cliche' ah we meet again." Devon said not taking his steady, heated gaze off of Emily. He rudely fixed his eyes on her's. Emily blinked her eyes rapidly a few times then averted her eyes to look over at Jaimie. The expression on Jaimie's face was a sophisticated blend of coolness with undertones of dislike. Emily read it perfectly to understand Jaimie knew who this man was and also did not like him but, needed to calm himself. Emily then let her gaze return back to Devon but this time, her expression was just as cool as Jaimie's.
"Why yes, it appears we have met again. Were you following me today?" Emily dared to ask.
Devon gave a chuckle. "Oh no, I was not following you, my dear. I own this restaurant . You happen to be dining with one of my employees. Isn't that correct, Mr. Barton?" Devon said and then let his eyes leave Emily to then gaze at Jaimie.
"Yes." Jaimie simply replied. Jaimie was thinking to himself that he would be sure to inform Emily of this scoundrel's ways as soon as possible. He regretted not telling her sooner.
"Well, I do trust you are on your lunch break, Mr. Barton." Devon asked and in his eyes, Jaimie could see the look of challenge.
"Of course. It is my lunch hour at this time." Jaimie replied again with no emotion in his voice yet, in side his body was fire.
"Very good. It is very good to meet you miss?...." Devon asked Emily.
"But you've not told me whom you are, sir." Emily said. Jaimie successfully managed to stifle a grin.
"I am Devon Frampton. I have owned the Eight Bells Pub for four years now. I inherited it from my father. It has been in the Frampton family for ages. I hope you'll enjoy your meal. I also invite you to stop by my offices before you leave. I'd like to get better acquainted. I do detect an American accent." Devon answered.
"Yes, I"ve recently moved here. I am enjoying England, for the most part." Emily was quick to figure out this man. She sensed his prowess and felt he needed to be taken down a notch or two. And she did it with such a smooth tone that is sounded perfectly polite.
"Welcome to Great Britain and if you need someone to show you around, please it would be my pleasure. I will make arrangements for a limousine." Devon offered.
"That's very kind of you, Mr. Frampton but, soon I'll be gainfully employed and then it will be difficult for me to take leisurely limousine rides. But, I thank you for you kind offer." Emily gracefully declined Devon.
Devon Frampton was not used to beautiful woman rejecting his advances or his offers. Inside he felt a twinge of annoyance at this girl.
"Very well. The offer still stands. I do hope though you'll at least stop by before you leave today." Devon insisted.
"Thank you." Emily gave no indication of what she was going to do but, again used her grace and cleverness to neither flatter or offend.
"Enjoy your luncheon then." Devon replied and with that he gave one glance to Jaimie of warning and walked toward his office.

As Devon walked away, Charlie was revealed standing just a few paces behind him the whole time. Charlie gave Jaimie a pained looked and then looked towards where Devon was walking to be sure he was out of earshot.
"Cor, I am so sorry! I tried my best to keep him at bay. Emily, he saw you and made a beeline to your booth." Charlie explained.
"It's okay Charlie. Our friend here has an excellent sense about her. I also think you're smashing! Words flow from your mouth like smooth silk. Even though you mean a warning to back off, it sounds so damn polite and refined. Girl, you bloodywell blew me away!" Jaimie said, his eyes sparkling.
"Mr. Frampton just reeks of testosterone, that's all." Emily said and then after a few seconds gave a cheeky grin. Both Jaimie and Charlie looked at one another and both of them broke out in laughter.
