Room 238 [Sunday Afternoon]

If someone could cling to a room, John would be doing so. But, since he can't, he settling for hugging doors and appliances in between throwing the last of his things in bags.

He'd miss 238. And other things. But 238 mostly. Maybe.

Late in the afternoon, Anakin appeared in the doorway, eyes shadowed with grief.

"You'll be careful," he said.

It wasn't a suggestion.

"I will," John said, standing up a little straighter. "I promise. You have my word."

"I don't have that many friends," Anakin said quietly. "Losing them..." he shook his head.

"You'll be careful."

[whitedeathpod]

"We will," he said, nodding. "And you can come visit whenever you want. I mean that. Whenever you need to. We can have Monopoly tournaments."

Anakin's eyes sparkled momentarily with their old humor. "I gave Aeryn Risk last week. But I kept China."

"She's going to try and get me to play that with her now," John said. "And if I take a country she wants? I'm going to get smacked."

"Well, yeah," Anakin agreed, "but you can't let her win either."

[whitedeathpod]

"I never do," John said, leaning against a box. "She's just that damn good."

[sith_happened]

"She is," Anakin with a nod. "Almost as good as me."

He bit his lower lip. "And she'll feel a little out of her element when you move," he said quietly, "because things won't come that easily for her. When she starts to get that caged look, take out the board game and let her kick your ass."

"Let her be a turtle sometimes," John said, pulling out the old knowledge. "And don't push."

Anakin nodded. "Exactly," he said. "You'll do well."

He chewed his lip, then finally blurted out, "Thank you. For watching out for Rory like I asked you to all those years ago." He shrugged. "And for everything else, too."

Anakin wasn't great at saying the important things.

"I'd do it again in a heartbeat," John said. "I just hope...Take care of each other."

"Whether she wants me there or not," Anakin said quietly, nodding. "You do the same."

"Hugs time," John said and embraced Anakin in a very manly yet 'omg I don't wanna go' fashion.

Anakin's grip was almost vise-like as he held on.

He really was very terrible at this.

"We're not far," John said quietly. "And she'll need to see you every so often. So will I."
