Yes I loved Lauren but I also love Marsha too. Hilarie Im Slowly Slowly starting to warm too but I will never ever ever be a Neal/Sara Shipper I just don't like that pairing.
But Natalie/Lauren were great I think she had a nice rapport/bond with both Neal and Peter :) I do wonder why she just left and nothing has ever been said as to why she left. Hmm's interesting :)
From what I've read, they wanted to bring back Marsha Thomasen's Diana to help fill the slack created by Tiffani Thiessen's lessened screen-time during her pregnancy, and decided that there was too much "overlap" between her and Natalie Morales. (Any given FBI field office can only have one amazing female agent?)
Hilarie Burton, changing the subject entirely, is a good actress and a lovely lady, but Sara Ellis is, IMHO, an ill-conceived character. It was obvious from when she showed up that she was being positioned as a love interest for Neal, and she's never once surprised me, nor persuaded me that she's a whole person with an identity independent of Neal Caffrey. I don't blame Hilarie Burton for this, I blame the scripts and conception of the character.
Um, may I suggest that you change the wording of your poll, please? I attempted suicide when she disappeared! is making fun of a very serious situation, and might really upset a lot of people for no good reason. You could easily get your point across with something like 'I cried for a week' or 'I set up a shrine to her in my room'.
Gotta say, though, that, no, it's not "making fun of a very serious situation." It's overdramatizing missing a TV character, but it's not making light of suicide.
I actually had the same reaction to the "suicide" wording. Quite honestly, even if I'd loved the Cruz character, I wouldn't have wanted to tick that option because (and even though it was meant as an exaggeration to make a point) I don't like the idea of something related to a TV show being put in the same context as the notion of entertaining suicide.
And just for the record, I didn't like the Lauren character enough to miss it when Diana was brought back. I didn't loathe her or anything, but she didn't quite click with me. But I do understand that there are Cruz fans out there, so I think your claim is very valid.
I was always rather ambivalent to her, to be honest. I rarely felt like she actually added anything to the team (most of her input was always the sort of thing that could have been handled by a nameless face
( ... )
Yes, all of this. I liked Diana from the start and didn't understand why Cruz was supposed to be a good replacement for her. Cruz was underused throughout, and that's down to the writers, who could have made her into a great character in her own right the way Diana, El and June are.
I'll note that I liked a lot that she didn't have to bat for the other team to be able to resist Neal's charms. When we're talking about the dysfunction that sees no other possible use for a woman than as a potential sexual/romantic partner, there's a lot to like about Cruz and Neal's relationship: He sees her, she's hot, he turns on the charm, she shuts him down, he shrugs and works with her as a respected colleague, which grows into friendship roughly affectionate teasing in both directions.
That arc tells us things that the dynamic between Neal and Diana never can.
So bearing in mind that fandom is not a zero-sum game, where liking one character means hating another, or wishing one was still here doesn't mean wishing another would go to make room for her
You know, I feel like that might have had more value if you hadn't used to opportunity to snark on Sara Ellis (who I adore) just one paragraph earlier.
That being said, I do like Lauren, mostly because I still see Natalie as Wendy Watson and, well, I loved her. I don't think the writers did a great job developing her, though, and they did an absolutely terrible job writing her off.

I've got to say, I don't think there is anything snarky about saying you don't find a character interesting, it's simply an opinion, like you saying you adore her. TV is subjective, it's meant to be ;)
And for the record, I liked Lauren too and agree, they did a terrible job writing her out.

I'm not saying get rid of Sara to make room to bring back Lauren. I'm saying, for reasons outlined in another comment, that I don't find her as interesting or well-writen a character.

This! If they could have given her a little more to do, maybe other fans would have connected with her more? I know Natalie is doing other awesome projects now, but I would have loved to see her continue on the show - I really liked her banter with Neal (as others have already pointed out).
