Oh I am so mad . I know China is a racist country, because according to the CNN news, the country is 90% Han Chinese so it is a homogeneous society. It's difficult for biracial people in just about any country, since most cultures stigmatize dating outside the group, but I think you're right that it's even harder in a country that is quite ethnically homogeneous. Japan has a similar problem; in spite of a large presence of foreigners and numerous immigrants, who are increasingly fluent in Japanese and well-versed in Japanese culture even upon their arrival, it's always "O.o WTF??? How do you speak Japanese/know how to use chopsticks/know how to bow/like Japanese food?" like Japanese culture is this big secret that only native-born ethnic Japanese can ever truly know. (And which amusingly second- and third-generation children of Japanese immigrants are supposed to intuitively know in spite of growing up outside of Japan. Woe to so many disappointed grandparents to discover their Japanese-American grandchildren do not in fact speak perfect Japanese, nor enjoy natto on their rice for breakfast!). But you'd probably encounter the same problems amongst a community of dominantly white people in small-town America, too: A black man or a Latina shows up and out fly all the stereotypical assumptions. People everywhere need to learn that race does not equal culture.
Lou Jing might have an easier time in a more cosmopolitan area, but if she identifies as Chinese I think it's her prerogative to live in China as she pleases. I hope she has strength of character, because it will be difficult, but already making herself public in China on this TV show will raise awareness of the little-known diversity of Chinese nationals. Maybe some attitudes will start to change.
