Good morning folks! In my opinion, an awesome episode last night. I heard some folks complaining that it was uneventful, but to me, it wasn't meant to be "eventful" as it was mostly an origins story, nothing more. We found out more about the island while still keeping secrets about it from us and the relationship between Jacob and Esau was

First and foremost the best of luck to you and Mel! I hope this the just the first day of a wonderful long life together!
Now on to the matter at hand; last night's episode:
For the first time in a long time; we perceived this episode differently. I was truly disappointed; not because it was uneventful but because it raised more questions than it answered in my mind.
1) Did not recognize the language at first that the two women were speaking until Claudia told Crazy-Fake-Mother her name. That line at least was in Spanish. As soon as she drinks the language turns to English which I believe was poetic license on the writers part. I think they wanted to establish that they were not speaking English but they knew they could not have one hour of sub-titles.
2)Although not implicitly stated; I believe that Crazy-Fake-Mother wanted the babies to take over for her as guardian of the light and that is why she killed Claudia. I think that was the reason rather than any maternal instinct on her part.
3) I only came up with one name: Claudia thought she was having one baby and so never came up with a name for Baby in Black. And apparently nobody else did either as he is only referred to as Son or Brother. I listened to the Lost Podcast last week for the first and last time (there is a reason that Damon and Carleton are not air talent) and they still refer to him as MIB. Perhaps he has no name! Kind of like Clint Eastwood in the spaghetti westerns!LOL!!
4) It is far worse than death/he stole my humanity: Crazy-Fake-Mother told Jacob never to go down into the light that it was a fate far worse than death. As we saw when MIB went down the hole he turned into Smokey and his physical being is now dead in the cave next to Crazy-Fake-Mother. So I believe that is what he meant to Ricardo when he told him that Jacob stole his humanity. So Jacob and MIB are both dead; and that is why Jacob could be killed so easily by Ben. It could have happened at any time but Jacob appeared only to Richard until the day he was murdered.
5) On MIB seeing his mother; remember Ben saw his mother also in 1974 just before he met Richard. I think Hurley is the only one who can see the dead consistently but I do believe both boys were visited by their mothers.
6)I read somewhere this week that Across The Sea takes place in like the year 23 AD. Now the first time we are introduced to MIB is 1800 years later when the Black Rock grounds on the Island. At that point he still looks like the man we see in Across The Sea. Now I understand that he took Locke's form to get to see Jacob. But why have we never seen MIB since 2004?
Why did he look like Christian to Locke as well as Frank and Sun? Any Ideas?
Well again My Friend have a wonderful time, and bet on the numbers while you are in Vegas! LOL!
Until Next Time Brutha!

Thank you! That makes sense as when the Losties met Charles, Ellie, and Richard in the fifties Widmore and the guy he killed were speaking Latin. Juliet said all "Others" spoke Latin. Always enjoy your insights!

I suspected the episode would give us more question and in true LOST fashion, it did. I think the only thing I want to know about the island is who started this whole thing, etc. We have 3 1/2 hours left and I think we'll find out the answe.r
1. As Stephanie mentioned below, it was definitely latin. But you two already covered that!
2. i'm almost thinking that Fake Mother originated from the original Others group on the island. She killed Claudia for the same reason the Others took folks from 815: they were possible candidates. I'm thinking that she was told ahead of time what she had to do and just as those who came before Fake Mother, they also were candidates to take over for whoever is really in charge.
3. Somebody caught a screengrab from ABC's youtube LOST channel and it actually says "Jacob and Esau." It was later removed. nobody knows if this is legit or not, but if it is true, it's a great confirmation.
4. So just to make sure I understand this: you're saying that both Jacob and MIB are already dead, but Jacob only appeared as a mortal being that one time? Interesting!
5. ah, I hadn't thought of that w/ Ben! I do like what Jacob said to Hurley in season 5 about his communication with the dead being a gift.
6. I read that too, and I was hoping for confirmation from this episode. And I'm thinking we haven't seen MIB since 2004 as he was just waiting for his moment. If the 815ers were at war against the others, they probably wouldn't trust anybody new, especially something that could be related to smokey. I know i'd run the oher direction.
I'm not sure why he took Christians form to Frank and Sun. Maybe because if somebody, especially Jack, asked who told them what to do, etc. it would influence them to stay on the island. That's my guess.
Take it easy!!
