Notes about LOST (6.15) - "Across the Sea"

Good morning folks! In my opinion, an awesome episode last night. I heard some folks complaining that it was uneventful, but to me, it wasn't meant to be "eventful" as it was mostly an origins story, nothing more. We found out more about the island while still keeping secrets about it from us and the relationship between Jacob and Esau was ( Read more... )

Congratulations!! I didn't realize this was the weekend you were getting married!! Good choice of day (Saturday is my birthday). :-p

I have so many questions still, and I don't know where to start. But all I wanted to say was Jacob was very Christ-like in this episode (like he's been in other episodes). Christ didn't want the fate that God gave him, but he accepted it just like Jacob doesn't want to guard the island but accepts it. He's also "looking down on" Esau's people. The only time I thought he wasn't was when he had the outburst against Esau. But then I remembered the outburst Christ had at the temple when he destroyed the vendor tables. So I think his Christ image was intentional.

And I can't think of it right now, but I'm pretty sure I remember something about weaving and how it relates to weaving the lives of men. It might be from Greek mythology maybe? But it would make sense since nothing on the island is by accident. In fact, I think I've commented on this before when we saw Jacob's tapestry. He weaves others' fates into a tapestry, and that's what the Fake Mother was doing. When Esau destroyed it, he was trying to change his fate.

Also, I watch Lost with the closed caption on and the Fake Mother was speaking Latin as she blessed the wine, but I couldn't catch what she said and CC didn't translate. The language at the beginning between her and Claudia was also Latin. This is probably why Latin is used as the code words (back when Richard and the others wanted to enter the statue).

Good luck and congrats again!!

Stephanie :)

hehe thanks!!

Good points on Jacob and Christ. And I did love the "looking down" comment that Esau made to him. i did like how this episode humanized both Jacob and Esau, but especially jacob. It makes us realize that he isn't a god or anything, but simply another possible candidate and many came before him.

I remember you saying that about his tapestry.

I meant to talk about the language in the beginning but totally forgot! Thanks for pointing that out!
