"What did you do over Christmas"' they're going to be asking, just as they've been saying "what are you doing for Christmas" all week. "Spending time with family" is the brush-off answer. It's easiest not to be perfectly accurate and add "planning the funeral of the woman who should be sitting at the head of the table".

But at least I got the plumber in to fix your bathroom before I was called to the emergency room, because you would have fretted over the thought of us having to use your house all Christmas week with a half-blocked bathroom sink.
