1. Favorite and least favorite characters in ATLA?

I love a lot of the characters in this TV series. Particularly Zuko, Katara and Toph because I feel they’re the most relatable. I even like Aang and Mai because although the writers majorly screwed up their arcs, I feel there’s potential for them. The idea of Mai on a recon mission somewhere in a woodland area instead of a boring royal court talking politics with noblemen and women makes me giddy because I feel that is where she would be most happy.

The only character I absolutely loathe in this television series is the Lion Turtle. In my opinion that big waste of space ruined what could have been an absolutely amazing ending in the span of five minutes. What happened to the number one rule of writing: never make things easy for the protagonist?

2. How did you get into ATLA?

I saw the cartoon on TV when I was 14 and fell in love with the TV series instantly.

3. If you could rewrite the ending to one show/book/movie/whatever, which one would you pick?

I’d change the ending of Avatar: The Last Airbender so that:

1) Aang fixes his own problems. In my opinion Aang constantly either gets out of having to make difficult decisions or doesn’t face the consequences for them, so I would like to see how he would have handled his moral code vs. his duty as the Avatar problem without the Lion Turtle bailing him out. The mark of a true hero is one who has to make difficult decisions and faces the consequences of them.

2) Leave all the Avatar ships open ended so that the audience could make up their minds about who ends up with whom while they enjoyed the chemistry between family and friends. Shipping bias aside, I genuinely think the romantic subplots in this TV show took too much attention away from the characters’ individual development and the platonic relationships in this show, particularly Zuko’s twisted relationship with his family. Avatar: The Last Airbender has always been a show about families and friends facing the difficulties of war together or the characters finding a new family when their old one became broken. I feel that theme should have been present in Avatar: The Last Airbender’s final moments or in season 3 in general.

4. Any movies you're planning on seeing?

I’m seeing Pirates of The Caribbean 4 with my friends for a late birthday/end of exams celebration. We’ve all been fans of the movie series since we were kids so the movie’s kind of a big deal for us.

5. A movie that everyone else loves that you just don't get?

The Dark Knight. I appreciate it artistically and liked one or two of the plot points within the movie but overall it just made me nostalgic for the cartoon series.
