My little troop were such brave souls today. I guess in Wenatchee, rain on field trip day is cause to freak out, because I had the other teachers asking me if I was going to cancel. What the heck? Folks, I come from Portland, and 80% of the field trips we take there are in the rain! Precipitation never hurt anyone. I can't even imagine trying to tell the kids we couldn't go- they would have been devastated. So we bundled up with warm coats and high spirits, and it was AWESOME! The kids got to pick out a pumpkin, feed the farm animals and go through the maze. It was a fabulous time, and I have such supportive moms that I'm so grateful for.  No one complained, even though we were soaked by the end.

I did have an unfortunate situation happen with my precious Dominic though, who told his chaparone she was a "bad mom" because she didn't get them candy at the store. Sometimes these students use such hurtful and they don't realize the weight they can carry.  They can be so impulsive and just downright mean.  The mom he said it to is just the sweetest woman in the world, and who is very quiet and suffers from MS. I think that combined with the fact that it's that time of the month for me just sent me into an emotional tail spin after school. I just needed a good cry. Thankfully we got it all sorted out- had a serious talk with Dominic and his mom, and he apologized for his actions.
I guess this whole experience just really brought to light how emotionally invested I am becoming with my students. Each time they make a bad choice, especially a big one, it just hurts me like they're my own children. I want so badly for them to suceed and learn to make good choices and treat others with love. It's so much about guiding their social thought process at this age.

So... I'm just drained.  There's a misty gray fog outside, and I'm absolutely tickled to death because it's the WEEKEND.  I'm sitting her snuggled in my blanket with the heater right next to me, watching Oaklahoma.  Something about musicals just melts all the bad away.  Curly and Laurey =  <3 <3 <3
