Despite the lack of sleep i've been experiencing lately, i had a nice day yesterday.
I posted about going out to the barn and riding with Adam. I went back in the afternoon and gave Ibn a bath. He was starting to turn yellow. And not a pretty, shiny yellow. More like a poo-stained nasty fur colored yellow. I thought i was going to just roach his mane because its gotten so icky. I love the horse dearly and he gets plenty of attention and what-not, but he doesn't have a "mommy". The woman who rides him right now is a ding-bat and doesn't assume the other responsibilities of caring for a horse. And although i now have the time to take "full care" of a horse, i don't want to be the unpaid groom so that she can ride and not worry about him. Anyway, looks like I'm riding him again because he needs to get more muscle. Since Katie left for school, no one works him hard enough. Granted, he retired and doesn't need to be doing the levels of collection that i've asked him for in the past, but there is something to be said about maintainence. It's common sense that the best thing for arthritic and older horses is consistency and maintainence. And my Ibby, well he just thrives on TLC. He likes having a "mommy" (in opposition to 4 instructors and 30 volunteers a week working with him randomly). So i've taken up the momminess lately and I forgot how much i love having a relationship with him I've been working with other horses lately, but none of them are as expressive and as close to me as Ibn.
Anyway, yesterday afternoon i went out in my bikini and rubber ducky bathing shoes to clean him up. After numerous coatings of his mane and tail with Quik Silver he's white again! A few people didn't even recognize him that night during lessons. It happened so gradually (and its not like he looked horrible or anything) and all of the sudden he was shiny again :D So then i dried him off, trimmed up his mane a bit (it de-ickied so i didn't have to cut it all off), grazed him for like 20 minutes, then let him loose in the big ring. He was having so much fun running around and kicking up his heals and generally bouncing around - which in the 5 years i've known him, he doesn't do that very often (hey he's lazy - gotta conserve energy here...). So of course i went out and darted from one end of the ring to the next with him following me. He's so funny - i seriously think some days he considers me to be a short skinny horse or something. Either that or he thinks he's part human. I just love how well he interacts with me.
Then i went to the mall with David and Jenni and met up with Emon and his friends. Then that Sam guy was there and hung out with us and well yah... ugh i don't like him! He's nice and all, but its just that he acts so cocky it drives me crazy.
Anyway, i got a nice new dress (sort of a 'toned down' version of my bright red dress with an open back) and wore it to make a speech for the NEC at a fancy shmancy party thing. So yah i got all dressed up and shinified and thought i looked nice. Then i went straight to karaoke. I tried to have a good time but i was a bit too stressed out :-/ It was definitely fun to see Roberto sing "The Devil Went Down To Georgia". That got me uplifted a bit again. Then of course i crashed again.
Who knows what tonight will bring?
