(no subject)
i'm going to try my best to accurately describe the past couple days.
friday night i met my brother's new girlfriend joelle for the first time. she's easy-going and has a great sense of humour and i'm thrilled to say she makes my brother happy. which is great since he's such an awesome brother and i love him to pieces. joe and i spent the first 20 years of my life alternately fighting or ignoring each other. i was always jealous of all my friends that were able to have close relationships with their siblings and really thought that we would never be able to bridge the gap to get to know each other in any meaningful way. i'm glad that whatever bullshit was keeping us apart is now gone and that we can be so close.
saturday nicky, adri, mikey, faye, link, graham and i went to take the dance cave by storm only to realize that our old haunt had changed in some disturbing ways. graham's right - it looks like a coors light commercial that just won't end. it was more like a typical club than i have ever seen it in the past. too many aviators indoors and i saw more than one girl "dancing" in that "i'm-gonna-rub-my-ass-against-this-guy's-crotch" way that has become all too familiar. still, i wish we could have made it there earlier since our 1am arrival meant that we missed tyler by mere minutes!! anyway, adri, graham and nicky pulled out some awesome moves and i think we schooled all those scenesters.
even though we didn't see him tyler assured me that asian patrick swayze (APS) WAS there. tyler saw him by the bar looking a little disappointed and i could see why. all the classic pixies, violent femmes, cure tracks that we've all come to love/ expect were replaced by tracks by groups like the killers and brand new.
even though i missed APS i did manage to get a picture with pajama-guy
in person he didn't look as wasted as he does in this picture. though he did smell a bit due to the sweating. he really suffers for those flannels and i can only wonder what inspires him to continue to wear them there week after week.
even though the club was disappointing i still had a great time with everyone. it's been at least a year since i'd seen everyone, except for graham who i haven't seen in at least two or three. while i've known graham for many years we've only had a few conversations (all of which i have enjoyed) but when we started to get into it in the lineup for the dance cave it was like no time had passed at all.
it was especially great seeing nicky since we are super-tight.
nicky = awesome best friend. nuff said.
okay, at this point in the night this started to get a little hazy. i drove adri home then nicky, link and i sat for a spell in her backyard to have a smoke. after a phone call from mikey we headed over to his and faye's to sit a spell in the shed and grab graham before we headed back to scarborough. i don't know if it was the weed, the jetlag, or the shitty sleep that i had the night before but i somehow managed to get us lost and i think we wasted a good 20 minutes driving in a huge circle before we finally found our way.
the next day, i was awakened by the sound of my grandfather coming through the door. i dragged myself out of bed and threw myself into the shower. soon the majority of my family was crammed into my folk's place and the gorging was well underway. being the youngest in my family allows me the luxury of having cousins with small children that i get to play with during such visits.

this is alyssa. her and i have always gotten along like gangbusters and yesterday was no exception. after the first hour she was sitting on my lap and bringing me books to read to her.

this is my grandpa, cousin-in-law and alyssa crowding around our newest family member gabriella. gabriella is only 6 weeks old and i never did get a chance to hold her since my grandfather pretty much wouldn't let her go. this pictures represents the ten minutes that he allowed other people to hold her.
all told, a great start to what's sure to be a fanstastic couple weeks.
