Gone

I keep waiting
a sad anticipation
for this to be the end
as convinced as I am that we are
meant to be
life is just bearing down on me
with such ferocity
convinced that I will understand defeat

I don’t want to love you
more than I do today
because every time I fall a little deeper in
the world appears
to take it away
take it all away

We aren’t storybook happy
because their stories always stop
before real-life enters in
but we are better than those two-dimensional creatures
we are flesh, blood and skin

I wanted to be a soldier
loving you striped that away
I am not an army of one

I have become a Warrior
of days long passed
strong
defiant
willing to blast through any wall to enforce my way

How is it going to be when I have to cry for you?
How is life going to be without you?
How long before this blows me away?

I hate that these thoughts come
little happiness thieves
reminding me
that marriage is not
built to last
these days and times are
stripping ever after away

We are falling victim
falling in to deep wells
in to mazes without solution
vast trenches in black oceans
being told to breathe deep

writing, marriage
