Even I know not to do that!

I love watching home renovation shows, especially house flipping ones. The one I'm watching right now is aggravating.

First off the two men, gay partners I think, speak in high pitched whiney voices with Southern accents. Just listening to them annoys me.

Second, they don't actually physically have the money to finance this project. Sadly, they lost a home in Katrina. They're supposedly getting a settlement but it hasn't come in yet. Bad idea to start without the needed capital.

Third, instead of salvaging existing fixtures such as cabinets, they just demolished everything! The cabinets were perfectly good. Give 'em a coat or two of paint and new hardware, voila! No, they chose to spend something like $4,000 on new cabinets. Also in the kitchen the chose to put slate. Slate is beautiful but it made the kitchen so dark (on top of the super dark cabinets!) and it was laid unevenly. The kitchen is now crap and detracting from the home.

Fourth, they chose to get rid of the only window in the bathroom so they could install a mirror and some lights above it. One guy said, "Why would you want natural light in the bathroom? Who would want that?" I WOULD! And so would a buyer. Install the mirror somewhere else. Besides if you get rid of the window you need another way to get the moisture out so now you need to install a fan system.

Fifth the outside was beautiful brick. It did need some updating in the curb appeal area but that could have been as easy as replacing the shutters and painting the trim. No they painted the brick. That's not easy to get back.

The best part is they talked to some flipping adviser. She told them not to do all the things they did.

They should have just given me the money and I'll do the house. Fuck.
